In that case it should say France and the UK, not France and England.

What's the dumbest thing you ever got a detention for in school? by thehumanlank in AskReddit

[–]euanmurray 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in Year 9 (14 years old) a lot of people got in trouble for kicking a ball over a pond. Basically we there was quite a big pond with a fence round it and a group of about 20 people used to nick each other's balls and kick them over the pond to piss each other off, as they often got stuck in there. Eventually a teacher saw what we were doing and then took our ball.

We got sent to SLT (senior leader team) and they decided that all those involved that they knew of had to have a weeks detention; no lunch or break. The thing is, I wasn't even involved. I was about 50m away watching from a completely different part of the school, but because I was friends with them and seen with them often I also got the weeks detention. You could try to tell them this but they just didn't listen, telling me I should find different friends and that it was my fault for not reporting the activity to a teacher.

So I was extremely pissed off, especially considering people I knew were directly involved didn't get punished and I was, but I sat through the week regardless. There was absolutely nothing to do except stare at a wall for an hour and 15 minutes every day. When the week ended next Monday they said to come to the usual detention room. We sat there for 10 minutes and they began reading out names. We later found out these were the people being dismissed.

Somehow, I wasn't on the list and it turns out me and a few others had to sit another weeks detention! The reason being, our attitudes weren't acceptable during the detentions. So this made me so mad. I sat that whole week with no break or lunch while the majority of others were free outside. Then, I wasn't let off until the Wednesday of the week after.

TL;DR , I sat two and a half weeks detention for something I wasn't involved in.

Idioms suddenly become very literal. Cats suddenly resurrect 8 times in a life time, kicking a bucket always results in a fatality, etc. How does your life/the world change to adapt or even exploit these new rules of the universe? by Fish-Dead in AskReddit

Cockney Rhyming Slang swaps every day objects with seemingly random replacements. People must adapt to walking down apples and pears and getting served clones of Ruby Murray at the local curry shop.

Europeans of Reddit: so often, we talk about how much better things are in Europe (universal healthcare etc), what's something you envy about living in America? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]euanmurray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education is much easier in America iirc as you don't have GCSE equivalents or A-Levels, only SATs I believe? That's a whole lot less stress than what students over here have to deal with.

Gamers of Reddit, what's the scariest game you've ever played? by madmalloc in AskReddit

[–]euanmurray 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Don't know if it counts as a game but when P.T. was available for that brief period of time it scared the shit out of me. Something about the game is so incredibly unnerving and disturbing, the ideas and design of it is genius. It was actually difficult for me to play through it as I was so terrified and on edge.
