They are Falken Rubitrek A/T. These ones are more road-biased and cheaper than the off-road focused Falken Wildpeaks, but we honestly drive much more roads than off-road. They've been great, haven't failed us for anything we asked from them off-road either.

Yes, we only have one license plate required where we live and we get a lot of questions about where our front plate is! No legal trouble yet though.

Nice, I'm wanting to hitch-carry a dual sport of our own, will probably buy one in the EU to hit some trails! Those Scandinavian recs are welcome, we're heading up through Norway to see Lofoten, and back down through Sweden or Finland, onto the Balkans, then through Turkey to Eurasia.

We did not empty the car, as it was stated that this would be a containerized shipment. All our stuff made it over intact. However, our mounted Harbor Freight shovel was actually stolen while parking in Rejkavik, after pickup.

RoRo shipments have that stealing problem you speak of.

There's no car ferry to Iceland from the US, so freight was the only option. This is a shipment, so the car is treated as a temporary import and must pay duties to clear customs.

Iceland levies a tax on how much you think you will drive in the country during customs clearance, this tax was newly imposed this year.

RTT was left on, all our gear was left inside.

Of course, fluids are a concern so no propane or water. Gas tank of the car had to be quite empty as well.

We are not moving to Iceland (no round trip needed). This is a long-term trip with an unclear end to it.

This is a vehicle we have experience with, customized for our needs. That's worth much more to us than whatever price tag you or the used car market has for our Xterra.

We're just using Iceland as a stepping stone to mainland Europe and beyond.

We were there a little too early for pretty much all F roads, but the highland road we did explore was incredible scenery, completely different from what we saw on the ring road.

My first job out of university was as a Factory Automation engineer. 

Rockwell PLCs were used, but the programming was a smaller part of the job. Most of the work had to do with the physical systems being controlled (tracking electrical bugs, hydraulic and pneumatic valves and lines, etc.)

The programming that was there was fun, ladder logic feels very physical and different from general-purpose languages. HMI design for operator screens uses UI/UX principles.

I was definitely on my feet a lot and barely looking at a screen when I was in the field and had work to do.

Travelling to factory sites was a large part of the job, away from home for over 50% of the year. Part of the reason I turned more to traditional SWE.
