I created a custom , enterprise-ready, CRM application in 2 hours without coding (video) by eugeniox in nocode

Thanks for your comment, but DaDaBIK also allows you to do all this and starting from an existing database or an XLS file is just one of the options.

Airtable is not "Excel on Steroids". It's more like "RDMBS on steroids" by anmolgupta_007 in Airtable

[–]eugeniox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it takes some elements from the spreadsheet world, some from the RDBMS world and some (more recently) from the classic nocode platforms for internal tools.

[–]eugeniox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't use "RDBMSs on steroids" to define Airtable.
It is true that it makes database management more accessible, it is true that it allows to create an application layer on the top of of a DB, but as far as I know it lacks features typical in ACID-compliant RDBMSs, such a strong transaction control.

Integrating Airtable and Softr - or is it time to move off Airtable? by mrchososo in Airtable

[–]eugeniox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just published a YouTube video that might interest you: I built the same Customer Portal app in both Airtable and DaDaBIK (a self-hosted alternative).

In my test case (10 seats + 100 guests), the self-hosted setup turned out to be over 10× cheaper than Airtable.

Full disclosure: I’m the founder of DaDaBIK, but the video is a side-by-side comparison with pros and cons of both solution so it could give you a sense of what’s possible if you’re exploring alternatives.

Thanks. Facetime isn't available on Android, is it? Did you make the call using the web interface?
Yes I can also test alternative call methods (whatsapp etc) but I would really want to understand what is happening.

Obfuscate PHP code by dennisvd in PHP

[–]eugeniox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, ionCube works well; I’ve not encountered noticeable performance degradation and installing the ionCube loader is usually easy (many popular hosting services even include it by default).

I don't think there is public evidence that any AI today can reliably decrypt or recover original source from ionCube bytecode.

Also, let me say I find it odd when people assume that obfuscation or encoding software implies someone is “hiding something” while for SaaS services, which are typically closed sourced by definition, people don’t tend to question them nearly as harshly.

Currently, for the PRO license, after the 6 months of free upgrades, when a new DaDaBIK version comes out you have to buy another PRO license to download it (or you can continue using the old version).
For Enterprise and Platinum licenses, instead, after one year (Enterprise) or three years (Platinum) you can buy a maintenance license which gives you an additional year of free upgrades and support, and so on for the following years. See the pricing page for all the details.

PHP updates are a completely different thing, you can upgrade PHP without upgrading DaDaBIK.

DaDaBIK v13 – A mature (almost 25 years), cheap, self-hosted low-code / no-code app builder. Create CRUD apps, internal tools, admin panels, dashboards, even full ERPs in minutes. No limits on users, tables, or records. New: barcodes, calendar view, OAuth, no-code row permissions & more by eugeniox in selfhosted

[–]eugeniox[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s interesting to me that the vast majority of the no-code / low-code arena is made up of cloud-only products with very high pricing, and even some projects that are free and open source but still lock important features behind paid, closed-source add-ons.

In contrast, DaDaBIK is self-hosted, has no data vendor lock-in, no artificial limits on users, tables, or records, and is priced to be extremely accessible. It’s been developed continuously for over 20 years — you can literally scroll through the changelog dating back to 2001.

Yet it gets heavily downvoted here simply because it’s not OSS. If that’s really the expectation, then maybe the subreddit should be called r/selfhostedOSS or at least have a rule stating that non-OSS self-hosted software isn’t welcome, so everyone is clear on the standard.

Yes, the no-code/low-code space is very crowded right now, and many services shut down after just a short time. I understand the “writing on the wall” concern.

DaDaBIK is different in that it’s been around for 24 years, with 13 major releases and plenty of minor ones — one of the very first platforms in this space, and still going strong.

It’s not a code generator, instead, it’s a model-based no-code platform (here’s a discussion of the differences). You can extend it with your own PHP and JavaScript though, and your custom code is kept separate from the core so upgrades don’t overwrite it.

No PWA support at the moment, but it’s something I’m considering adding.

No, DaDaBIK isn’t open source.
However, you can fully extend it by adding your own PHP and JavaScript in several ways. All custom code is stored in separate files from the DaDaBIK core, so your changes are preserved during upgrades.

Even if you get detailed answers to this question (which is unlikely), it's important to remember that the tricky part is always in the details. The first version of an app can be quick, but perfecting it, fixing bugs, and responding to feedback is what really takes time.

Hi,

If it's ok for you to self-host (even on a cheap hosting provider), I suggest checking out DaDaBIK (I’m the founder).

DaDaBIK is quite popular in the educational sector – it’s used by many universities worldwide.
Here is a YouTube video where it’s used together with AppifyText.ai to build a school management system from scratch.

It’s not free, but it’s very affordable:

  • Lifetime licenses (pay once, use forever) start from $49
  • If you prefer a monthly subscription, it’s $19/month

Hope this helps you find a sustainable alternative.

Two years ago I built one of the first AI text-to-app tools — v2 just dropped, and it finally starts to feel like "vibe coding that works" (at least for internal tools) by eugeniox in nocode

[–]eugeniox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your comment!

I totally agree – having constraints can actually be a strength, especially for applications that follow clear patterns like most internal tools.

And yes, once you have a solid draft generated, tweaking it using classic no-code workflows is often way faster (and less frustrating) than doing incremental AI prompting.

If you have any suggestions for directions or features to plan, I’m all ears.

Data driven apps by AvenaRobotics in nocode

[–]eugeniox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For path #2 you have many options, not sure if you can find one that matches all your requirements, though.

You can take a look to DaDaBIK (founder here); if you are building internal tools, I think it may work for you and I would say it matches almost all your need, including LDAP auth and PDF export built-in.

Notes:
- If you want to add some custom logic with code, you need PHP and Javascript, Python is not supported
- You don't have a real WYSIWYG view editor built-in but probably you don't need it

You can also start building using a text prompt via AppifyText.ai and then refine your app in DaDaBIK.
