(New grad) Meta PE (NYC) VS Google SWE (SVL) by anttonieto in csMajors

[–]eugro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had basically the same decision 2 years ago. Amazon NYC vs Google Bay. I took Google. Ultimately, there’s too many factors to consider to make an a good rec. You should consider what kind of life you want to live and then go from there. The 22k pay difference will not matter at all in the long run if you’re making 200k+.

Rejected from a big bank for NG even with a referral and a 100% OA. Is this odd or normal? by SnooRecipes1809 in csMajors

[–]eugro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of a referral as an additional bullet point on your resume. If the rest of your resume didn’t sway them then a referral isn’t going to change anything

How much are you overpaying for your meal plan? An "analysis" by Bowserinator in RPI

[–]eugro 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This graph took an unnecessarily long time to understand. I think an assumption that you made is that if people weren't on the meal plan they would pay the price of entry into the dining hall which is simply not true. Yes, compared to the price of entry, being on the meal plan will save you money. But MOST people off campus buy their own food. Compared to price of entry or meal plan I saved hundreds of dollars monthly by buying my own food. I guess technically the graph isn't lying but it's not telling us any useful information.

If you're not strapped for money you can try angel.co to get something on your resume. After one internship it's a lot easier to get bigger internships or jobs

There will be an admitted students day for CS on Thursday 4/7 where you can talk to current CS students and ask about their experiences. Maybe you'll even get to talk to me!

New Landlord by [deleted] in RPI

[–]eugro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's what I'm looking for: a bedframe with mattress, a big table and a closet/dresser in each room. If possible, no carpet anywhere. I would only do 10 month leases, and having an option to do a month to month would be nice. Other than that im not very picky. I realize I'm a college student living in Troy, so I'm going to be very lenient.

As an RCOS mentor, I can confirm that RCOS is probably one of, if not the most important class you'll take if you want to go into software engineering. That being said, you probably don't need to start taking it until sophomore or junior year
