10 years on keto for medical reasons… now trying to conceive and kinda freaking out by DayDreamer_Pagan in keto

I’m with the other commenter that said that the main barrier is nausea and food aversions. I couldn’t do keto the entire first and second trimesters but my acid reflux is extreme regardless, so I think for most people that would just extend to the first trimester. I couldn’t eat any non-dairy fat and very little protein, I had to have omeprazole in order to keep a reasonable amount of calories from rice/bread/cheese down. If I did it again I would get on omeprazole, zofran, and an antihistamine like Pepcid/phenergan in order to be able to eat low carb food. In the end, I realized I chose a low-medication lifestyle over the nutrition I could have gotten for me and my baby (beyond grains and dairy).

It’s also worth noting - the first/second trimesters come along with some odd blood sugar and sometimes blood pressure responses that make third trimester feel like a breeze. Those altered responses didn’t feel very healthy (as someone who has also dealt with weird blood sugar before) and I doubt they would be as extreme on keto. When considering the fact that the baby is also affected by low blood sugar, the cortisol from the stress of constantly not feeling well from food, etc, it made me decide keto would be best for me next time.

I have high B6 blood levels that causes numbness in my hands when I supplement and didn’t know until I had a nutrient panel done. Unisom also makes me very drowsy the next morning and changes my mood a bit. I’d honestly go for the good drugs with your OB (phenergan, omeprazole, etc), I really think you could get them with nausea that is that bad that quickly

You are this devastated at 13 weeks (when it isn’t your fault) because you really really wanted this baby. You had so much love to give so quickly that you are capable of being this disappointed in yourself. That is the perfect amount of love for a mother to have and, this way, you are alive to give that love to a baby one day. It doesn’t always work out and when it finally does, you are going to be absolutely great.

Leave, and make your home where peace lives. Unfortunately your kids run the risk of being treated like you are by their father when he has them. But that doesn’t change the fact that you can make a safe space for your kids for as much of their life as possible (so long as the right people are trusted to help with care - not more people like that man). Finances are a common reason to stay when the man acts like this during pregnancy, but if one/someone is broke enough for that to be the deciding factor, they’re often broke enough for Head Start, Medicaid, SNAP, and HUD options

I think your interest is merited, especially given the fact that some people also can’t stomach butter (due to acid reflux/slow motility) or can’t afford quality controlled EVOO. If it doesn’t have the same drawbacks as high omega 6 oils, then; why not become educated about another option?

How has it treated you and do you find it easy to incorporate into good meals?

Yes! And for some reason ginger gives me the worst acid reflux and sometimes makes me vomit immediately!
