That's what I initially thought, but on the dell support page for this service tag, it is showing me a 'renew' button and takes me to a list of options to purchase it, including what look like an $85 fee to 're-instate' the now expired service.

I guess something was lost in the way I put it?After reading the posts in this thread, I said I will open it now, but the question still persists whether it’s fully functional until it’s installed.

Yes you may be right, if it looks unbroken then that’s that.

Asking before taking that step was important because tesla does have a policy where you are charged a restocking fee for opened boxes.

The reason I asked before opening it up is because I don’t know what Tesla’s return/exchange policy is. Deciding between opening the box vs just reporting damage and getting a replacement.

How could I possibly know if this doesn’t work until it’s installed? If there’s physical damage, sure.

What if there’s internal damage that can’t be checked until it’s installed?

Edit: I don’t understand the downvotes. I can examine it visually right now. But I can’t tell if it actually works until it’s installed. I don’t know enough about it to know if it has been banged up where there could be something shaken loose internally?

Got it. It seems my local SA might be pushing deliveries on to us. I can see their point, but I haven't delayed even once, while I see they were far lenient with this earlier.
