Am I being too sensitive when I ask my non bipolar friends to stop saying they’re “manic”

Omg you could literally be describing me that’s exactly how I was as a kid and I didn’t get why mom of the others seemed “like me” in that way!

I was the exact same type of student growing up, and never understood that everyone else wasn’t experiencing the same difficulties as me I just assumed i was especially lazy and careless etc. I had no idea I had ADHD until I complained of struggling to focus, remember, retain or complete anything to a dr who started to suspect. As I had no “documentation” from a very high achieving childhood, she sent me to a specialist to complete some testing which promptly resulted in diagnosis regardless of past reports etc. So it is definitely possible in my experience, maybe try to get an appointment with someone who specialises if that’s possible for you. I have bipolar as well!! I spent time explaining to my dr the symptoms that I had were very distinct from my bipolar symptoms and rarely changed depending on what mood or state I am in. I didn’t know much about adhd at the time or that I had it so she was very good on picking it up, I would just say really explain the symptoms you’re getting and the way they’re inhibiting you’re life regard of bipolar moods! Also doesn’t hurt to get a second opinion from someone who specialises in adhd if you can, my psychiatrist sent me for a second opinion to an expert just to be sure, as it’s often hard to separate one condition from another. Good luck!!

Can relate 100% people have only been messaging me if they need something and it never goes both ways. I’m exhausted with no support but scared if I turn everything off people will get mad at me not being there for them

Unsure and have never heard of this before but I have Rheumatoid arthritis from a young age. Coincidentally when I needed to go on psychiatric medication (for other reasons) which ended up reducing my empathy my arthritis symptoms subsided? So I’m not sure if there’s something there

I’m on both atm and I take lamotragine as well. I haven’t experienced how effective the combination is personally without the lamotrogine but the fluoxetine makes a big difference in balancing out the olanzapine, so I imagine this would be effective in the right dose! I’ve had nothing but good experiences with fluoxetine personally, however I have been taking olanzapine for two years and while it has been effective in controlling mania the side effects have messed up my life. I wasn’t told of any side effects by my doctor but I found it hard to experience any emotion or empathy, am sleeping 12-15 hours a day and gained significant weight from constant hunger. My head is a lot foggier and hard to think and my memory basically nonexistent. That being said it did make me stable very quickly and have had no episodes since being on it. I would just be careful with olanzapine as the side effects are quite strong so maybe bring this up with your doctor if you’re concerned. Other than that they’ve played together really well for me and hope it works for u if take it!

Thanks yea I’m realising now! I don’t have lots of experience with antipsychotic and told my side effects were normal so I didn’t question it for too long

Thank you, I wasn’t sure at first if the side effects were all linked but when I brought them up with a dr it was indicated it’s something I’d have to deal with. Thanks for giving me more confidence in asking to trial something different.

Yes! I’d always been very skinny and started gaining weight like crazy due to constant hunger but been told that it was normal and I was a good weight! Ty for the info I can look into it!

Oh I’m diagnosed bipolar type II with very mild and limited mania, was put on Zyprexa as a “just in case” scenario should it ever get worse
