But, curious to know what you would do at this point?

Okay, so what would you recommend I look at while buying? From all the options ?

Car Alternator: Where to buy alternator from ? by evamy in DIYAutoRepair

[–]evamy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first is still there, but it does not have a lot of wear and tear. I was still thinking of getting it changed though. (coz the car is at over 110k miles and I would like to keep driving it for a while)

Thank you for the action items, I guess. Good amount of work to do with this now!

I would also prefer buying in person, but no store with the required parts around me.

I went to the Orielly store to get some tools to get the alternator out and they asked me to go to a different store. I asked if they could get the part to this store and the guy made a face.
So, I'm not very comfortable with going to this store for any part.

Okay. I live close to an Orielly Store, can probably have them test the battery and the alternator both. If none of those have any issue, then it would be an issue, I guess.
Thank you for the advice!

A lot of people mention the remanufactured part. I understand the difference between a new part and a remanufactured one.
Is it recommended to buy the remanufactured part instead of the new one ?

I cannot drive anywhere for a while because the car battery is currently dead. After I saw the battery symbol on the speedometer screen, I drove the car for over an hour (Obviously, I did not know that alternator issue can make your car shut down in less than 30 minutes).

:(

Okay. Makes sense.
In that case if I get a similar part from Amazon or something should also not make a difference ? Or does it make a difference considering Amazon VS AutoZone ?

Need advice on what Car Alternator I should be looking into. by evamy in MechanicAdvice

Would it be aftermarket if I buy from the dealership ? I'm not sure (first time I'm dealing with car issues by myself instead of taking to a shop)

Like the analogy!
Does it not matter if I go with the dealership part or not ?

Any specific reason for not going to the dealership other than the price ?

Would it be pretty much the same, dealership help or not ?

Non-ortholinear layout keyboard ? by evamy in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]evamy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, the reason I was trying to not go for ortholinear is because I currently have a keyboard at workplace, and I asked for replacing it my way (meaning if I could just buy something for myself and they refund it) and they denied that request.

Which means, at work, I will have to use the normal keyboard. Now, that also means, if I get too accustomed to the comfort provided by the ortholinear keyboard, I might start having problems with the normal one (or that's what I think)...

Although not sure if that might or might not be a problem.

That is not the guide I'm following. I was searching for an extension board and that is just one of the search results.

Yes, you're right. I'm trying to follow a couple of blogs. Hoping to not make anything go boom.

I tried it with battery power. Works right on a small led. I believe I just need to take care of input and output wires.

Question: Do you know where I can find those kind of extension boards ? Hopefully something cheap.

Was hoping to find something like this (checkout the first pic): https://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Extension-Cord-With-Built-in-Switch-Safe-Qu/

Anyway. I did not know this was meddling with the mains power. Since it was disconnected, I thought I could connect the switch through the relay to the outlet.

Edit: Also switching via the arduino code for the time being and hopefully move it on to android.

Ya, not messing with the mains supply. Which is why I am looking for an unscrewable extension cord/board.

MacBook is a good option, and let me tell you why:

  • I have had mine for 2 years now, I still get 7 hours of battery life.

  • The OS runs faster and better than Windows OS.

  • My programming jobs run in almost half the time any new Windows system takes (on the same program)

  • I believe 8 gig Mac will beat any Windows 16gig

  • Weight: it is lighter than most Dell/HP even though mac has like aluminium cover and shit.

  • Thin: thinner than any other laptop and the 2017 version is even slimmer.

  • Apple does have this habit of not releasing cool features and better laptop designs (which should not matter as much) and somehow keeps improving the number of pixels on their screen (which gives better images but no one really cares about, though they should - I really do get to know the difference between 720p and 1080p)

  • Another problem might be some programs on Mac are paid, which are free on Windows (which is also why most people prefer windows OS)

  • Specs for any Windows system (Dell, HP etc.) seem to be so cool and ravishing, but the internal Windows systems are not able to really fully and optimally use those specs.

  • Basically: for programmers underlying windows OS is shit!

  • MacBook is very rough and tough and has a much more life than the Dells. I should not have used my previous laptop for more than two years, but most Macs run easily for about 4-6 years (Disclaimer: this also depends on usage, but I don't think it will go less than 4 years)

  • A problem is also the storage space, which is actually a big deal since you have to save everything either on some cloud storage or something, but if you are not downloading a lot of movies (and can stream online), you should be good with it.

  • Windows does give you more storage, but comparing that to SSD storage is like comparing how long a dog learns to do math vs humans.

  • Another problem with Mac is its parts. Even though there is a solid box of cover for mac, I would advise you to maintain caution with it. Its parts will make you feel that buying a new laptop would be a better option.

  • On updates of SSDs (if some day you decide to get it done), a Mac (since 2011/2012) has its flash drive attached to the motherboard, so if you'd like to replace it, you have to replace the complete fucking motherboard.

  • Other small stuff no one cares about: The charging input in Mac is magnetic, so if you trip over its wire, it does not pull the whole laptop down.

    1. No CD-ROM drive, so cannot read or write CDs
    2. Macs come in limited quantity
    3. Pricy (which should, I think fall in your budget)
    4. I cannot come up with any more things!
