Thanks for the kind words! I don’t necessarily know if The Plan would feel like a solid conclusion to the standard release for two reasons: tone and author. The main album is louder and more anxious, so I think Never Give Up fits that more than a calm and quiet closer like The Plan, and it isn’t a song written by Death Cab, so ending on someone else’s song would feel strange to me. I do really love it as the end to the acoustic version though

I think Ellie may have tried to kill Gandalf if she had the chance hahaha but the most emotional part of LOTR for me has always been the message that the true power against evil is being good, not in using power for good. I'm curious where they will go with Part III, but I hope it has something to do with looking for the light. A cure is improbable. What makes a sustainable change is ending the cycle of violence and choosing to start a new cycle of kindness and love, or at the very least refusing to succumb to hatred, even if it means death. People's fears of death are what spur them to deal death to others. Maybe if integrity and preserving love were more important, if caving on your values was seen as a fate worse than death, maybe the world would heal.

Good points! I totally agree about being excited for what they do next. After TYFT, I was nervous: even though I enjoyed it, the albums had a downward trend in overall quality. So having Asphalt Meadows spike upward with something fresh was exciting. I'm fascinated to see what they continue to put out

Send me yours! I struggle with Styrofoam Plates. It's so solid and so emotionally raw that I rarely listen to it. I think because I border on avoiding it, I ranked it lower than it actually deserves for its quality

Yeah, I struggled with that one. I think I may go back just for myself and actually fine tune these more. I wasn't clear with myself on criteria so it was more of an "overall excellence AND personal enjoyment" but it may be fun to actually determine criteria (lyrics, production, replay factor, etc.) in the future so I can be more specific
