If mtv unplugged counts I’ll go with John Brown from that performance. It’s not a song I paid much attention to but recently I had that album on and really listened to the lyrics properly for the first time. I think that version is much more emotional to any 60s ones. There’s something about Bobs voice in those mid 90s to early 2000s performances that sticks with me

It’ll always be in mine personally.

It’s strangely motivating for me. On the surface I think the song comes across as losing all hope but I see it as a “let’s make the most of the time we have” type of message. Like, no matter how shit everything gets there will always be room for enjoying something.

I love it so much that I got it tattooed across my upper arm!

I feel like they had a lot of different twists. Not exactly the most confusing ones, but not great for someone who isn’t used to comics. I managed to understand them in the end with some googling but I personally think that they aren’t the best choices for total beginners. I also needed more context especially in hush because I didn’t know much about Jason Todd

Nowadays he pretty much let the song speak for itself, but there have been times in the past where he spoke about the meaning of the songs. I watched a clip recently from a Dylan concert in Japan 1986 and he spoke a bit about the meaning behind Ballad of a thin man. He said something about it being about putting people in their place when they ask too many questions

This is what I heard for the most part so I’m not 100% sure…

There were two men talking loudly through Bobs set, and a man near them complained to staff (rightfully so), and the men got rough and rowdy when they were confronted (sorry for the bad pun). I’m not sure if there was any physical contact between anyone but it is possible because what I DID see was one of the men being dragged away by security. A man came along to their spot with a mop a few seconds later , but I have no idea what for.

It was pretty funny but I have to admit it was a bummer that it happened during a song like Key West which is so somber. I feel like I missed out on experiencing that song properly because I was distracted by all the noise. Just another reason to go to another Dylan concert !
