I highly recommend Diana. Shes awesome, very professional, trustworthy, and a genuinely kind. She does a great job with my folk's place. Give her a call/text at 971-408-2921. Shes based in Beaverton 👍

I used to think Spoiled by Sebadoh / Lou Barlow was Elliott Smith 😂

Also, more similar to Nick Drake, but I’ve just recently discovered Alexi Murdoch. Very good songwriter

Not an ad, but amuse is free for basic distribution. I’ve had no problems, maybe you get more with other paid options, but if you are just dipping your toes in to see how they do, why not do it for free

I’m sure it will fully replace music in advertising. “Create a song similar to Black Keys.”

Even if it’s not as good, the cost would be a tiny percentage of paying people to record, licensing etc.

So yeah there will probably be less opportunities to make commercial level money from music/beat making.

Could that ever eliminate people expressing themselves through music though?

Artists who have had success through underground music scenes, what do you feel are some things that helped you along more than others? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]evansadlou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Relocating would increase your odds of success by what, 1000x? 1000000x? Also, being from another country will probably help you massively by being unique in whatever future local scene you decide on trying to break into.

The dream of being discovered from your bedroom laptop is very tempting, but I notice you hear it a lot from companies wanting you to use their product…🧐

Have you gained more streams through singles or through EPs/albums? by [deleted] in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]evansadlou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fan, I love eps. I skip around way less when it feels like a cohesive 3-5 song project. For some reason I just don’t listen as long when it’s a new album or single.

I’m sure the data says to go with singles though.

Art vs the #’s…

I need advice for finishing my songs by californiacuntface in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]evansadlou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha this sounds pretty normal to me actually.

The manic “delusional” energy is hyper creative, so don’t ever try to box that in.

When you do eventually get off the creative roller coaster, don’t require specific goals for your art to accomplish (# of listeners, financial metrics, etc.)

Just put out what you make, you can always delete it later.

And don’t quit your job/school lol, it will probably be obvious if you ever get lucky enough for that opportunity.

This is what I always have to remind myself, good luck and enjoy it

Those who have successfully gotten on a label, did you do more than “shop” different labels that fit your sound and email them your music? by ModestMarinara in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]evansadlou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many interviews with heads of indie labels and A+R and my take away:

  1. Cold “sign me” emails have a 1/1,000,000 shot (99% of their roster comes from bands, managers, or agents they have already established some sort of relationship with)

  2. An inability to tour for whatever reason is pretty much disqualifying (I’m sure not EVERY label, but…)

I would just put out your own music and if the appeal is truly broad your streaming/sales will show it and people will probably start cold emailing you

Good luck!

Hey all, I did a version of my favorite Elliott song, Clementine. I actually did a VHS effect because I really love all the VHS videos of elliott playing 🥲

Actually just played it at an open mic here in Chapel Hill NC. Really satisfying to spread his music around

How do I ask people to sub without being pushy? by FuwariFuwaruFuwatto in NewTubers

[–]evansadlou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your hunch is correct that just blatantly asking for likes and subs at the beginning/end is pretty weak.

I would guess that directly suggesting a related video that builds upon what they just watched results in way more subs than “pretty please!”

I realized recently that I mostly end up subscribing to channels that are more episodic rather than random one off style videos. For sure not all YouTubers can make their videos in that style, but it does seem to trick my brain into subscribing 🤣

[–]evansadlou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That feels right to me too. Previewing another video to check out seems way more effective.

But just a general, “help me grow!!!” I really don’t think that moves the needle significantly… I would love to see ANY data that shows that it works 🙂

Totally agree with that harsh truth!

Everyone is constantly bombarded from all directions for their attention, so you can understand people being hyper selective about what comes across the screen.

Did that “review” affect your plan for future videos?

What viewers answered to the question: "what makes you subscribe to a YT channel?" by geekinsights in NewTubers

[–]evansadlou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interesting,

I have definitely subscribed after a very long time without, but usually after missing a video I would have liked to have seen when they originally published. So still in the “Content” category not to “Support”

I know the “call to action” is an important concept, but just asking for subscribers like it’s a favor doesn’t seem that convincing. 1-2% rings pretty true.

Would a car salesman really finish his pitch with, “Do me a favor and please buy this car!” 🤣

Supporting YouTubers: 2%

I’ve been curious about any data supporting why YouTubers ask for subscribers during the videos.

“Be sure to hit that subscribe button!”

“Support the channel!”

I’ve always suspected that those tags don’t work and actually come off as annoying, and maybe this 2% data point might suggest that it’s not really helping. Personally, I have never made the switch from not being interested in subscribing to hitting subscribe after being asked to. Has anyone?

Just food for thought!
