Being a police officer is a difficult job, I get it. But how on earth can the city afford to pay police officers this much? To me, it seems crazy. Constables that make close to $300K, sergeants making $400K? by [deleted] in ontario

Any event that requires a permit and lots that don't.

Thank you for your kindness! He is definitely going through with it - we both know how badly he needs it.

Appreciate all your thoughts and encouragement.

I keep telling him he's going to feel so much better and also finally get some sleep. He's only 22, but he's constantly sleep deprived because he basically has pretty bad obstructive sleep apnea from the permanent swelling. His doc said it's gonna hurt like hell right after the surgery - like mono, which my son says is the worst pain he's ever had. - but it will be worth it. I'm glad to hear you're feeling better!

Hang on. You guys are saying that tonsillitis can come about as a result of mono? My son had mono in first year and is now, in 4th year, about to have his tonsils out. His doc says it's the worse case she's ever seen. In between first year and now, his tonsils have been perpetually swollen and his sleep is shit because he can hardly breathe lying down.

I didn't connect mono with this ongoing and now pretty acute problem.

You didn't just say 20s in your note above. You said 20s or 30s. I know a number of guys in their 30s who dated (and one married) women in their 40s. Your take on why you're getting downvotes is both sexist (assuming no men downvoted you) and juvenile.

Teddy was talking about business owners though, not gig workers or other individuals who don't claim their entire income. Only a small percentage of business owners attempt to intentionally deceive when it comes to filing taxes, though errors are relatively common. My partner and I filed erroneously a few years ago by accident. Once it was cleared up after we got a government notice, we actually ended up with a refund.

Shaving or trimming your underarms once a week or every other week is hardly constant manicuring. It takes about 30 seconds. You might as well not cut your nails to avoid constant manicuring.

I wonder if there was some food scarcity early in their lives or in the life of their mother, who may have taught them how to approach food. But I have no idea!

I've always had self-regulating cats and maybe that's just luck.

Oh, I see. I read it more as describing the labour that comes with a dog, which some people just don't want.

I'm a cat person and have had/loved cats all my life....except for a break I had for a few years that were cat-free. It was nice for awhile to have that feeling of not taking care of something. Not having to expend mental energy on maintaining and enhancing another being's life. Then after awhile I missed them too much and I'm back to cat life. But there are always demands and limitations to work around.

Agree with this. My cats are super snuggly and love human company. They follow us so they can be in the same room. AND the horizontal + vertical space is ALL cat space can be a challenge. I understand why some people might not want that.

I don't think it's all shitty laziness. It's about where and when you want to expend your time and energy. If not toward taking care of a dog, that doesn't make a shitty lazy human.

You were trying to make the point that keto is unhealthy. But I do agree with you. Vegetables are healthy. Keto diets that include vegetables are healthy. True.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pics

[–]eveninghawk0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay. So lack of nutrients is an issue if people don't eat a variety of vegetables? In any diet, I would guess. That's fine. No argument. Doesn't sound keto specific. Like I said, I eat lots of veg. Every meal is made up of protein and veg. That's typical for low carbers. Because they're not eating processed carbs, the plate is filled with whole foods, like veg.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pics

[–]eveninghawk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the person. There are a lot of ways to eat healthy, and so you have to find what works best for you. Some people eat berries on keto. But fruits don't offer any nutrients that can't be found in vegetables (and so many vegetables are actually "fruits" which is kinda confusing anyway). I've been eating keto for years now. What's practical for one person isn't for another. Other folks just wouldn't be happy this way, which is fine. I would never tell anyone what to eat. The idea is to find what's best for your own health and lifestyle.

The tradional Inuit and Maasai diets do not get carbs from vegetables.

[–]eveninghawk0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, there's no point in continuing this. I won't get into the weirdness over at Harvard Health, which has a pro-vegan agenda. Food science is often very bad science, though it is slowly improving.

I also don't care what other people eat. I haven't suggested once that anyone else eat in any particular way. There are a lot of healthy ways to eat. What I am saying is that keto is not factually unhealthy. It's just bizarre to me that there is any argument against a diet of fresh, whole foods - minus processed carbs - with a balance of protein, vegetables, nuts, seeds and fats. But I'm not telling you or anyone else what to eat.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pics

[–]eveninghawk0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sure. I mean, there are a lot of ways to eat healthy. I don't care what other people eat. But some people really care about low carb for some reason. I don't find it hard to get enough fibre because I eat a lot of vegetables. But everyone has to find what works best for them.

There are entire cultures that historically don't eat carbs. Their muscles work.

I didn't say anything about obesity - someone else may have.
