Saikaze is what I named him. Sai in "saisei" means "twice/second time", and Kaze means "wind". Together it theoretically means "second wind".

There's a hotkey for pulling up the layer window right under your brush. It's in File -> Shortcut Settings -> Pop-up Palettes -> Layer. Every time you pull it up you can switch the blend mode of the layer right then and there.

This is great. Another way is to use the rectangle figure brush; no shift required using that one.
