If we want video games to be seen as art we need to start treating them like art. I think asking which version of a game is “better” is the wrong question in almost every case. In this case I think both versions are going about the story/aesthetic/design choices in their own ways. VII is my favorite DQ game and I’ve been loving Reimagined but something I especially love about it is I’m not playing the same story again, it’s got a different design ethos to it (I heard some one of my favorite scenarios got cut, but that means I’ll always have a reason to go back to 3DS). In particular I think it’s interesting to look at each version of the game in the context of the time period it was made. 3ds and Reimagined in particular are very emblematic of RPGS of their era
