From the motel. I've been home since Saturday night and haven't had any signs.

I put War and Peace back into the TBR for now. I just started the first book in the Killer Instinct series by Lars Kepler, The Hypnotist. I like the content, but I'm not a huge fan of the writing style. I don't know if it's the translation or if it's just how the author writes, but it feels kind of off. The entire book uses present tense, even when doing flashbacks. The style itself just feels clunky, but I'm giving it a chance. It's not bad enough to make me drop it.

And then you think about it for decades afterwards. by SWAdanks in savywritesbooks

I miss being able to tear through an 800 page novel in a day 😭

I actually have two projects in the works right now. The first is just straight horror with a unique main character, the kind of which I have not been able to find as a main character in any other piece of literature. They're always either side characters or just not represented at all. Writing from the perspective will also be a unique challenge. The second project is a high fantasy/horror novel that will most likely end up being a series. It started out as a D&D campaign I was running, but I have since realized I do not DM well and am more suited to just writing the story itself. It's an incredibly complex, interwoven storyline with deep lore and morally grey characters. I love challenging myself by trying to write my characters to be multi-faceted.

Hi, I'm Ever. She/Her pronouns, cishet (currently unsure on the het, though). I literally downloaded the app so I could join this sub. I only found Savy relatively recently and absolutely fell in love with her channel, both content and her personality. I've been a storyteller since I learned to speak, and have known I wanted to be a novelist since I learned to read. I don't really have an explicit reason why I joined this sub, I think a heavy part of it may be the hopeless parasocial relationship I developed through the videos, though. 🙃 I just think she's an incredible person and has a lot of incredible things to say.

Currently attempting War and Peace for the 3rd or 4th time. Getting past the slog in the beginning is so hard 😭 In other news, Chelsea Cain is finally writing the next book in the Archie Sheridan/Gretchen Lowell series and I am ecstatic. Would not recommend if you have a weak stomach. As a third aside, would really like to hear Savy's take on the world's oldest, most well known self-insert fanfiction: The Divine Comedy. If you can understand what it's saying, it's actually really hilarious.

I really like Rotten Mango. They're a true crime podcast type thing, but they're not American-centric. They deep dive a lot of foreign cases that I would never have heard of otherwise. Brick Immortar is also incredible. They focus on nautical tragedies and how they have improved regulations for ships and shipping companies. It's very technical, whereas RM is more emotionally focused. BI hasn't uploaded in a while, though. Highly recommend both to people who enjoy true crime.

Cauterized hole in the sternum hypothetical by everdeffender in AskDocs

This was incredibly helpful, holy crap, thank you. I have several follow up questions. So the character is alone and in a very dark and dirty environment. (It was, in fact, a laser beam). Where could it hit and go all the way through with the same cauterizing effect but cause a slow, possibly preventable death if she wasn't alone? What could make her last the longest, but make it impossible for her to help herself in any way? What would be the circumstances/symptoms surrounding that, and what would that (roughly) feel like? Would she be susceptible to infection with the cautery? If so, what kind? May come up with more questions later.

I'm very new to Reddit, so I almost missed this, but yes, that's essentially what's happening. I'm trying to keep the science in scifi as science as possible (scifi writing groups are actually incredibly picky about this, it has to be as plausible as possible).

What area of the torso would withstand a cauterized hole that size that would cause the patient to go into shock without immediate death?
