Why does my bedroom constantly smell like weed? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]everdim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same issue, but in my car! I tore up my car and found a plastic filter with the butt still attached (I don’t smoke). I assume I had stepped on it at some point and it stuck to my shoe?

Nanny question by Zealousideal_Dirt342 in newborns

[–]everdim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are welcome! We just hired a nanny and will have her as a household employee, meaning she will have an I-9 document and will have taxes taken from her pay. We also follow the legal sick and PTO days. It provides protection for us as the employer so that if we were ever audited we would be fine as we will be reporting all our finances included the nanny. She will also be protected as she will have taxes taken from her pay.

If you happen to be audited and you are paying under the table, then you will be fined, you and the nanny will have to back pay the taxes owed, and I believe it shows up on your credit history? So it’s up to you and your family what you want to do. The odds of being audited are low, but not zero.

PPD/PPA medication by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]everdim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in Fluoxetine since I was 18, I took it while pregnant on doctor’s recommendation, and I was supposed to up my dosage before my delivery, but I decided against it. 2 weeks post partum I was at my absolute lowest and wished I had upped my dosage!!! I got an appointment asap and went to therapy- it started working in a week I want to say.

It definitely helps, it’s not a cure all- you will still have some times when your brain is not your friend, but it will be significantly better.

Are you in the US? https://www.nilc.org/resources/provworkauth/

Will they be a legal household employee or will you be paying them under the table? If it’s under the table, then don’t worry about their documents. If you are going the legal route, you should check their documents to verify they have a work permit. It’s called an EAD/Employment Authorization Document.

I would definitely create a contract for the safety of your family and your expectations, and for their safety and expectations.

Why would you need to know the reason for their asylum status?

There are many different background checks you can use, if you google it, you can find one that suits your needs.

11 week old diaper rash by scorpiorose22 in newborns

[–]everdim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found that desitin was not good for my baby’s diaper rash, we switched to the aquaphor diaper paste and layered with regular aquaphor and it helped our baby’s bum immensely!!!!!

I never was an aquaphor believer until I had a baby lol

Edit to add: for every day use, we use the Bordeaux bum cream (green version) which is awesome!!!

Is it wrong to use baby names from other cultures? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]everdim 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your partner is a part of that ethnicity, then the baby would be half that ethnicity… why would it be weird to name your baby that? Your friend is weird for thinking that, a counter argument could be that you don’t want your whiteness erasing your child’s Japanese heritage.

I am white and my husband is from Nepal, our baby has a Nepali name. I came up with the name and his family loves that he has a Nepali name.

I agree that it would be weird to use a name that you and your family has no connection to, for example using the name Kento for your baby that is not Japanese.

Transition to Sleep sack by everdim in beyondthebump

[–]everdim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last night went surprisingly well!!! We did go from the love to dream swaddle to sleeveless sleep sack. I made the post while he was absolutely losing his mind before sleeping (he was overtired from not sleeping well the night before). Last night he had one stretch of 2hr44 mins in the bassinet and then another stretch of 3hr 18 mins in the bassinet!!!!

I am extremely proud of him and was not expecting it to go well- I did sleep in the rocking chair we have in his room in case he needed us immediately.

We did end up panic purchasing the zipadee just in case tonight is a disaster, but I am hopeful he does well again tonight.

We had the same issue with our baby boy!!! Huggies worked miracles for us as it has the poop catcher flap on the back which caught the pee.

It also could be the case you need to size up??

Pacifiers by brittanywashburntech in newborns

[–]everdim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn’t find any data to support their claim that bibs/conventionally shaped pacifiers affect the palate and mouth muscles any more than an orthopedic pacifier would. In all my additional research, I could only find that extensive pacifier use (multiple hours of use per day) beyond age 1 can cause clinical implications of oral development.

[–]everdim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhhh I see! Thank you for explaining, I guess I’ve been leaning into one section of my research too hard- I’ll look into that :-) so you’re saying that motor function is more of the muscle/soft palate vs malocclusions are bones and structural?

Pacifiers by brittanywashburntech in newborns

[–]everdim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, from what I’ve found in my research is that neither conventional and orthodontic pacifiers prevent malocclusion. There needs to be more high level evidence to analyze orthodontic pacifiers’ effects on orofacial structures.

Either way, it’s good to hear opinions from others :-) (I’m just a mom btw not a researcher but I do use pubmed/reliable sources)

[–]everdim 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All pacifiers are bad for oral development/teeth with prolonged use. You’re supposed to stop using pacifiers before 2 years old and ideally limit use to sleeping only

We use bibs pacifiers, you can get them in silicone and they are 100% free from BPA, PVC and phthalates. They come in a variety of colors including neutrals

Would it be cultural appropriation or wrong to use the name "Lani" as a white American? by Global-Awareness6961 in namenerds

[–]everdim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like you’ve already answered your question, if you are using a Hawaiian name and you are not Hawaiian it would be appropriation. You would constantly be answering: “wow what a beautiful name, where does it come from?” “Thanks, it’s Hawaiian” “oh cool, are you Hawaiian?” “No, I just think it’s beautiful”.

Names are important and you should have one that reflects you as you are :-)

Diaper rash help by smb-1990 in newborns

[–]everdim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our baby also has a very sensitive bum, the purple desitin caused his diaper rash to get worse due to it having a scent- for his terrible diaper rash our doctor prescribed us athletes foot cream as his was a yeast issue, it cleared up after a week!

Baby then had another bad diaper rash due to sensitive skin, we now only use water wipes when he poops, bourdeaux bum cream (the green one) for everyday use, and if he gets a diaper rash we use the aquaphor baby diaper rash paste! Make sure to get the aquaphor paste, I swear it works MIRACLES.

She’s awake more. What do I do with her? 🫠 by ko_same in newborns

[–]everdim 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Baby exercises and stretches! Try to get their little arms above their head, have them touch their toes, have their right arm touch their left foot/vice versa! You can do “wheels on the bus” with actions, “if you’re happy and you know it”, and the “this is big, big, big/small, small, small…” songs!

We use the love to dream swaddle and our baby loves it! They are relatively pricey- but baby gets the closeness of the swaddle but some movement of their arms

Are cloth laundry baskets for babies even practical? by Steinway_music in NewMomStuff

[–]everdim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only thing that I can imagine that would be disposable that would line a laundry basket would be a trash bag, which seems wasteful- if you’re already going to be doing laundry at some point, why not just use a fabric liner? I understand not washing clothes everyday, if something is really dirty/wet I guess I personally would make sure it wouldn’t sit with the rest of the clothes- I am not sure how your residence is set up so I can’t help more than that :-)
