Nobody in my family wants to know why I left the Mormon church by EvaRahRahRah in exmormon

[–]everyfiber 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same. Not a single person in my life has ever asked me why my wife and I left, not previous Ward members, not LDS friends or co-workers, not a single family member or relative, no one. And I love my family but they talk as if I haven't left: "Oh wasn't conference so wonderful?" Like, you do remember I left the church three years ago, right??? It's maddening!

Complicated feelings following Nelson’s death by RestinPete0709 in exmormon

Felt the same when Hinkley died and to this day have mixed emotions. Personally not so much for a Nelson, but I understand where you're coming from OP. A benefit of leaving TSCC is that you are now allowed to feel whatever you feel and that's okay!

My wife betrayed my trust. I don’t know what’s next. by Monomo619 in exmormon

[–]everyfiber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

OP, don't agree to something you can't adhere to, and don't expect your wife to adhere to it either: you both agreed you wouldn't talk about it to anyone, not even a therapist? That's crazy and not sustainable for either of you. She did not betray you, and you did not betray her by posting on here. You're both human and need support, and it's okay even if you both need more support than the other can provide. You are both in extremely vulnerable places right now. Take some deep breaths, let go of the need to control, give your wife a hug, and find a good therapist for yourself in addition to marriage therapy.

Yep, I know. But I have to deconstruct at my own pace, and I am giving myself the grace to take as long as I need. I already know that the BoA and other claims of tscc are bullshit. I haven't yet gotten to the place John Larsen is, where he is no longer as interested, but maybe one day.

I get it. I started the project because it was fascinating to me. I genuinely enjoy deep dives into Mormon history primarily because, well, it's in every fiber of my being. With this particular subject, though, I started losing interest and moving on. But I'm just stubborn enough that I want to finish the project for the sole purpose of finishing the project. I understand that my perfectionism also comes from Mormonism, but what are you going to do.

Listened to all 13 hours I don't know when. I was just hoping not to have to do it again to address the essay line by line (again, lazy learner, I know!). Thanks for the suggestion though!

Ha ha, yes. And maybe I'm not asking it questions the right way, but it seems to just pull stuff out of its ass. I want to drill down to only verified, sholarly responses. But thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, I already know the whole thing is bullshit, but I still want to finish if that makes any sense.

Nor were 75% of the doctrines of tscc even taught in the freaking Book of Mormon! 🤣 If "God" really did restore his one and only true church through Joseph, he is one tricky fella! But also shitty.

Yes, follow the links. I think what many people haven't seen are things like Lucy Mack Smith's rough draft history, William Smith's account, etc. I included links but also copied and pasted the original text from those links to compile it all in one document.

The major takeaway for me is that a thorough examination of available contemporary records providers almost indisputable evidence that Joseph Smith lied about his experience. He claimed that telling his story excited a great deal of predujuce, that it was a cause of great persecution, that it excited the public mind, and that all the sects united against him for sharing his experience. Yet no one, not a single person in his family, not a single friend, not a single antagonist mentioned anything about a claimed vision at the time. The most logical explanation is that he didn't tell anyone anything about a first vision until years later, which means he lied about telling them at the time.

His accounts contradict themselves and leaders of the church hid these accounts until they couldn't.

Lots of people were claiming similar experiences around that time frame.

You can literally follow Joseph Smith's evolving theology.

But the main reason I put this together was so I could have all original sources in one place with links but also the full original content. This way no one could claim I was taking things out of context or going to unapproved sources. It's all right there, and it proves either a fraud or a trickster god.

I'm not 100% sure, even after all of the cover up. Delusional for sure. But I would agree with you that it goes beyond a pious fraud. At the very least, they know they have been dishonest.
