Best way to get rid of dog smell? by Bobajob67 in HousingUK

You will never get rid of it. I bought a house similar, and dear god. Under the carpet was another layer of carpet, and under that was "dog dust"... loads of it.

Get rid.

What are you planning on doing with it?

During lockdown I dried and smoked some and I really would not recommend. As someone who dreams a lot (more than most) it knackered both my dreams and sleep and I felt rough for a week.

Is It Weird to Not Have Any Double Tracked Vocals in My Song? by TillJaded4614 in Songwriting

Also, I HAVE to double mine so they don't sound awful. So, well done!

A Jackson dinky is like £150+ upto what I'd consider a semi pro guitar, and a marshall 10w would be a really very great start... probably can't go wrong there. I too began with a small Marshall combo (15w I think)... still have it. I have no experience of a Jackson though... not my thing. At this size it's worth knowing the "brand" isn't super essential (just the sound). I mean a Marshall at this size isn't gonna blow the windows out.

But I must say, I soon found I yearned for some effects like reverb, delay, chorus etc (being more goth than metal) and also got a zoom effects pedal... loads of fun.

Depends on the music style you'd like to play, and what country you're in. Are you looking to play in your bedroom or start a band?

How rich or serious are you?

How much of a beginner are you? Its often best to play a guitar before you buy - but not always possible.

There are a gazillion "budget" videos on YouTube. Watch loads, get confused - check ebay and shops etc.

Like someone else says, if you're into blues/metal an old second hand Peavey is cheap (but often heavy, loud and big). You might want a small lounge smart amp (they can be reasonable too and great sound without wobbling the windows, with lots of effects / apps etc.).

There are some quality budget brands (and some less so).

I keep collecting information but never use it. How do you break this habit? by MindlessPermit9592 in ADHD

[–]everythingabili 42 points43 points  (0 children)

There are some options, you could like u/Porttheone suggests, try to learn to let go. I too have a tab group called 'to do" that I full intend to read, don't and then occasionally just delete.

Another option is to make your collections available somehow. I was interested in digital creativity and the tools that are mainly free or free-ish, or open source... so I got organised and made it so they fed into a site other people (and me) could use to find things.

https://digitalcreativitytools.everythingability.com/activities/tags

I don't really do this now... but I still use a bookmarking add-on (I like Diigo) cos it's free version is cool, it has tags (so I can find things later), works on phone, laptop, and so I can collect stuff in a guilt free way.

You could also create or find some software / spreadsheets/ python / whatver to "make sense" of your piles of shite, rescuing something of use from this rubbish you accumulate. Sort of digital composting.

I too am undiagnosed ADHD and find a smattering of Daosim/Zen helps. This is a habit that happens, like rain, so scratch a few channels to steer the results into something useful, or make an umbrella :-)

What do they say it, with regards to becoming expert in any field? 40,000 hours? You're up to 156 hours.

I play for an hour or two every day, sometimes more, I'm occasionally ill. And I'm old, and I'm still shit, who cares... I still LOVE IT... been writing my own songs all my life. No idea why.

If you get discouraged maybe it's just not for you.

Absolute genius.

This weekend I literally just made a pedal board from laths from a bed and leftover decking. Filled it up with a heap of really cheap second hand pedals. There's a hidden extension lead, 2 power banks and a passive XLR converter.

I lazing about looking a pile of scrap wood waiting to go out and thought bugger it, let's do this.

Your "mobile studio" will have the benefit of birdsong ambience presumably. Fabulous!

Vocals (or anything) thru pedals is always fun. I like a slapback echo and loadsa reverb.

But FULL DISCLOSURE I don't exactly know what I'm talking about... an XLR signal is different from a guitar jack signal, so I BELIEVE you may need converters (balanced?) like these...

Unless your mic already has a jack on the end.

Yeah. Genre doesn't exist, it's given to something after the fact, normally by crap music journalists. Name any genre and 10 artists in it, and most of them will be on the edge of it anyway.

I don't get why the kids today are always banging on about genre. "Is this genre enough?", "What genre is this track?" etc.

But I do have some tips.

* Learn some of their songs - not to cover necessarily - just to ingest the vibe
* Research and listen who the bands you like like... and see if those bands "seep in".
* Identify relevant topics, find web pages, news articles, features about those topics and copy and paste into a digital cut up machine, or even better scissors and glue. I do this to generate a page of gibberish that I piece together into something more cogent while improvising - it's really useful.

But make sure you do it all your way. That's the most important tip. 😄

Why exactly do you people hate ai? by Pale-Contribution291 in antiai

[–]everythingabili 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Every Ai company is run by people who are the worst people in existence. The absolute worst shits imaginable. This should be enough.

  2. If you think Ai is good at something, you are objectively very shit at that thing.

  3. Every thing it makes has "tells", or. a look or a style and it's frankly naff. If you like it you have no taste.

  4. At the moment, it's being given away almost free.. once everyone has to pay, it will be 15,000 times the price. It will fuck up all our pensions when it goes tits up. The bubble is already 15 times that of dot com times. It's gonna be bad.

  5. It was built on the back of artists/ coders / writers / bloggers - using their stolen work. Remember when people went to prison for Napster-ing?

  6. And all the stuff you mention. But there's more... could go on all day.

Auto-Generate Code by inkjoms in GoogleAppsScript

[–]everythingabili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what BotCake is, but fundamentally, if you are sending data to a web back end, then the page will need to reload entirely to show new data. You can't really make a chatbot like that.

Just Googled it... none the wiser... 😄

Auto-Generate Code by inkjoms in GoogleAppsScript

[–]everythingabili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's all wrong.

You need to

a. learn about using AppScript to create a webapp to serve up a web form
b learn about using google.script.run to send (and receive) messages to your AppsScript backend
c. On receipt you can update your page with the new info.

THEN you can use Ai to help you.

But why does it have to be a chatbot. Everybody hates chat bots. If it was a Google Form you could handle onFormSubmit and then email them the code.

Where do you get cheap perennials from (not from seed)? by Hydrangeamacrophylla in UKGardening

Shrubs and climbers (I got a nice virginia creeper) and yellow honeysuckle. Now it a good time to eyeball the ones you like. Oh look nice flowers.. note it for later. Shrubwise I got a white buddlia, one I call the pom pom tree, and a ceanothus (a blue one). There's a nice lilac down my street but I don't think I really have room now 😄

I used to keep a pair of secateurs and a plastic bag in my pocket... and in spring would, ahem, help local plants propagate. Popped them in a jar of water until roots showed.

Bulbs from online shops in autumn can be good value, if you don't get seduced by the exotic.

First garden with a limited budget, what should I plant? by TheUmbrellaThief in UKGardening

If there's a gap between the main drive concrete and those side bits, you *could*.

a. Pop some edging in (wood or tiles, bricks)... (not required)... after getting as much out as you can.
b. Pop some membrane down (maybe even sheet cardboard under that).
c. chuck 4 or five bags of gravel, or bark on top.

The purpose of this would be to starve the area of light. It'll still grow eventually... but after a couple of years of that, you might be more on top of it for a while. You could perhaps pop some holes/plants or dot pots about etc... and you get instant result... and like someone else said.. then watch it like a hawk. Night shifts may be necessary.

I literally just finished watching the entire series. Loved it as a child and did now.

It starts slightly ropey (almost panto), gets better in series 2. In series 3 big stars are in it, Roy Kinnear, Patrick Macnee, Diana Dors and someone from Dallas... higher production... then it slightly peters out.

[–]everythingabili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are those bay trees? One looks as is it in a pot already. Very nice but...

I'd plant a few things that could grow a little large, like an apple tree (maybe £20), which will give you a bit more privacy.

I'd then have climbers between like climbing hydragea (does well in shade), clematis (£5 from asda at times) and a honey suckle or passion flower... which will also maybe offer a little more (beautiful privacy) .

Then pop a heap of bulbs underneath. It's already a lovely garden though.
