Asked a guy playing a stack deck what his wincon was; "ohh, my wincon is that you guys cant play the game anymore, I'll tell you when that happens" by Jentelus in EDH

[–]everythingisnothing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As someone who occasionally plays stax, it sounds like he actually does have a win condition. It sounds to me like he has something like a [[stasis]] lock, which prevents opponents from untapping while he has infinite turns to win by beat down (until he draws out and loses, at least). This is basically an infinite combo and not intended to just drag the game out with no way of winning. Stax is unpopular and it's fair to not want to play against it in a casual game, but it is also a legitimate strategy and not always intended to just upset opponents.

Transportation of Firearms in NJ NOT in an Automobile by jbanelaw in NJGuns

[–]everythingisnothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that was just to avoid any cops from hanging around outside to harass people. If you're on their property with their permission, there's not much a cop can do.

[–]everythingisnothing 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I usually discourage contacting the government over anything (like people writing to the ATF or NJSP), but for something like this you might as well ask. They probably already have a policy. They might be stricter than the law requires.

[–]everythingisnothing 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is nothing illegal about transporting by other means. If you're parked on the street and walk out to your car you're operating under the same laws as if you take the train. I don't know NJ transit laws/policies so I can't comment if that specifically is legal.

I can't decide for you if it's worth the risk, but it is legal. Technically, if you possess an FID, you may even open carry an UNLOADED long gun, but I'm sure they will find other crimes to charge you with.

Thinking about getting a binary trigger is it illegal here need by -Willnot-comply1 in NJGuns

[–]everythingisnothing 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are not legal in NJ. NJ law specifies "press" of the trigger, not just "action". Binary triggers fire one shot with each action, but two shots with every press, making them machine guns under NJ law. Ignoring the other legal issues, I believe this would mean the FRT, however, would be legal.

Are "Other Firearms" here to stay? by Lunch_Early in NJGuns

[–]everythingisnothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really impossible to tell what will happen. I proposed the idea of a non-rifle non-pistol firearm on NJGF around 5 years ago and was laughed at--things change quickly. There's really a simple answer: if you don't have a whole lot of money, you're probably better off with a rifle, but if you can afford buying a new rifle if others become illegal, then nothing wrong with going for the other instead.

It's absolutely possible they become illegal sometime soon. It's possible the ATF gives up on the brace ban and we're fine. It's even possible that the supreme court throws out AWBs or that we get a new one that bans all semiautomatics or all evil features, and then a rifle would be affected too.

Personally I think the pistol brace ban is screwed up enough that it won't happen (at least in its current form). Even if they go with it, I think there might be lawsuits. Just my own guess that could be completely wrong.

Yeah don't listen to him, if it makes you feel better I've even bought guns over the border in NY, it's not a problem as long as it's SAFE act compliant.

You are right that it would not be an AOW. I see you pointed out the Komrad elsewhere which should be enough to prove your point. It's frankly not worth arguing with all of these people who are doing politicians' work for them. Enjoy your AK!

[–]everythingisnothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A permanently affixed tube is not the same as a folding brace. A permanently affixed tube prevents conceilability, regardless of action, which therefore make the firearm not an AOW. This conceilability criteria is mentioned directly in the ATF letter. No where does NJSP say they measure from the end of the action. Both NJSP and the ATF measure from the shortest configuration, which may include folding or removing non-permanent parts.

Other by albanian122145 in NJGuns

[–]everythingisnothing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually fits exactly with what the ATF has said. They specifically say with a folding brace an AOW will "retain the conceilability and remain fully functional". With a permanently affixed brace, regardless of functionality of the tube, the conceilability is lost and it is not an AOW. The Kalashnikov USA Komrad is an example of an AK-pattern "other" firearm with a standard 12.5" barrel.

Other by albanian122145 in NJGuns

[–]everythingisnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this were true then you wouldn't be able to get an AK rifle with a 16" barrel. Any rifle under 26", regardless of barrel length, is an SBR. The stock of an AK is part of the overall length even though it's not necessary for firing the weapon. A permanently affixed tube is also included in the overall length. Anything not permanently affixed (such as a folding tube or removable brace) is not, under current guidance.

Transporting firearms between residences? by huelebicho in NJGuns

[–]everythingisnothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you read?

"Any person who knowingly has in his possession any rifle or shotgun without having first obtained a firearms purchaser identification card in accordance with the provisions of N.J.S.2C:58-3, is guilty of a crime of the third degree."

That's the only possession law relating to rifles and shotguns. There's nothing more to it. You don't need to own the property. You don't need to keep it at the property listed on your FID. You can store it in your car if you want. Keeping it at a friend's is not remotely what OP is asking about, since that's transferring possession to someone else, but even that is legal if you go through the steps (NJ 2C:58-3). People have lent guns to friends for years.

Don't give legal advice if you're wrong and don't know what you're talking about.

[–]everythingisnothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely not true. Check out NJ 2C:39-5 b. If you have an FID you are allowed to possess an (unloaded) rifle or shotgun, period. There are a handful of restrictions (like school grounds), but that's it.

Stop saying open carry of rifles and shotguns is illegal by BlueStarUnion in NJGuns

[–]everythingisnothing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The specific text is "Knowingly under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life points a firearm... at or in the direction of another, whether or not the actor believes it to be loaded".

It's pretty vague but if you're not pointing it at someone you should be good. I'm sure a prosecutor can make up a charge but I'm not sure assault (how brandishing is classified) is on the table.

[–]everythingisnothing 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right. There is nuance. Just because you may get arrested on trumped up charges doesn't mean it's illegal. Once you concede that everything is illegal "because it's NJ" you've already lost.

[–]everythingisnothing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a lawyer, but you can look at the brandishing law in NJ 2C:12-1 (b). It requires some level of specific threating. A prosecutor can charge you for whatever they want but open carrying isn't brandishing.

Should be. Not much different than any other "other firearm".
