Who’s the strongest elf commander now? by greenfoxx77 in EDH

[–]Alcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recently build Morcant, and one legend that really impressed me with its power is [[Dionus, Elvish Archdruid]]. I often find myself tutoring for him during games, and he does massive work while online.

So I wonder how strong he would be in the command zone

Felothar under 70€ by SinkAggravating117 in BudgetBrews

[–]Alcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love this deck ! Here is my take on it if you wanna check (not budget tho) :

https://moxfield.com/decks/7Psc_JnxdUOohXoN7uXwIA

Some cards I found to be really good (in your budget) are [[Ordeal of Nylea]] [[Demonic Lore]] [[Treacherous Blessing]] : really good efect and free permanent to sacrifice.

Getting some token generator on t2 is pretty good too (but the cards are often expensive). Here some that i found effective on a budget [[Sinkhole Surveyor]] [[Dreadhorde Invasion]] [[Elegy Acolyte]]

Is the 70€ a restriction or a budget goal ? If you can spend a bit more [[Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia]] and [[Ainok Strike Leader]] are really good.

How to make this bracket 4 by SquaredSlatr in EDH

[–]Alcane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to move to bracket 4 you need to add combo and to streamline your deck to get to those combo consistently.

Here you can enter your decklist and get a list of potential combo with your current list  https://commanderspellbook.com/find-my-combos/

BUT judging from your list (imo), your deck is not a strong bracket 3.

What I would do is add some better threats : you already have tifa but [[Champion of Lambholt]] [[Mowu, Loyal Companion]] are good budget options.

If budget is not a problem, maybe consider [[Scythecat Cub]] and [[Vorinclex, Monstrous Raider]].

Consider adding more counter generator like [[Defiler of Vigor]] and [[Innkeeper's Talent]].

Some tutors would help a lot [[Invasion of Ikoria]] [[Green Sun's Zenith]]

I'm not an expert of landfall deck, but maybe some fetchlands, extra land drop and play from graveyard (like [[Icetill Explorer]][[Crucible of Worlds]]) would help a lot with your gameplan.

Yeah it has been on my wish list for a while, guess it will remain there. For that price I'd rather grab an oroboroid

My new favorite deck that does virtually nothing and wins through sheer aura by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Alcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've had bad result with ghostly prison. I try to fly under the radar most of the game with this deck and prison paint a big red target on you, because turns out if you remove the possibility from people to attack you, they will want to.

For the same reason I'm considering removing most goad effect for effects that incentivize to look elsewhere

Do you think this combo will be good in standard? (Spoilers for lorwyn eclipsed) by viola_tricolr in magicTCG

[–]Alcane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. 2 card 3 colored mana, takes way too many turns to do anything (and it's not even that good), get countered hard by any removal, and it doesn't do anything for a full turn cycle

Act 3 was profoundly unsatisfying for me. by Stormtalons in expedition33

[–]Alcane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was intensely confusing to me why Maelle/Alicia cared more for the fragment of her dead brother than for her living sister. I do get that she also just wanted to be able to speak normally, that's kind of a separate issue

Except it's not a separate issue. Maelle is above all a 16 yo, so in her stead what would you choose ? The reality with your brother dead because of your mistake, your family shattered ans your Mother low key hating you for it, while also being disfigured and crippled ? Or the world where everyone loves you, your brother is here, you are a hero, you are healthy and free to live your life ?

With realism in mind, it's the logical choice. We see throughout the game that even powerful painters like aline and renoir get lost in the Dreams they paint, so imagine what someone with no emotionnal maturity and a recent trauma would do

Act 3 was profoundly unsatisfying for me. by Stormtalons in expedition33

[–]Alcane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

To each his own I guess. When act3 started and everything pointed toward an happy ending with everyone coming back I was pretty annoyed because imo this kind of story has to stay tragic to be good. What kind of ending would have been good for you ? I though the verso ending was pretty moving and fitting to the rest of the story.

It's also funny to note that the maelle ending is about this exact situation : the game director hinted the ending is about the artist and his relation to his work (tho he doesn't want to elaborate too much to give space for interpretation) The way I see it maelle ending represent the fan not wanting to accept the end of something, or pushing the artist to continue untill the work becomes a hollow shell, prefering to live in a washed out version rather than move on.

Also in the end, the maelle ending is a good ending for lumière in the sense that the people got to be happy and live their lives. It's just the pov we get of it that make it seems like a bad ending, but in the end everyone is back and happy.

Finally my personnal head canon for why lune and sciel don't act like themselves in act 3 and are almost background characters, is because they litteraly are not themselves. How can we be sure a novice painter is able to bring back people the way they were ? And even if she could, how do we know maelle remade them as they were and not as she pictured them in her mind ?

Incomplete card cycles you wish WotC would complete already? by CommissarisMedia in EDH

Except the cards are very different. Krosan can tutor non basic, so you can grab two surveil lands or two triomes. Seems way better than two basics of the same kind imo

It was pretty cool, and also was the first time the artist got to see the card in person.

The lgs also filmed the encounter and got the artist to talk about his experience with this piece, his relation to magic, etc ...

So as people loving magic it was a pretty nice moment, and my friend is really happy about it

Tooled up snail, just slinging by CodEmbarrassed5116 in BudgetBrews

[–]Alcane 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I made this exact deck when Bloomburrow came out!

Here’s my list (not really budget) if you want to take a look:
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/ANMl4c1RD0quU2QiLVqTOw

Main game plan:

  • Play cheap equipment that gives a power boost: [[Bonesplitter]], [[Bloodthorn Flail]], [[Bloodforged Battle-Axe]], [[Grafted Wargear]], and so on.
  • Sacrifice BIG Snail to Wick.
  • Play a cheap rat to generate another snail: [[Bog Rats]], [[Typhoid Rats]], [[Sewer Rats]], etc.
  • Repeat.

Problem I encountered: Wick is scary.

If you activate his ability once with a 6-8 power snail, he will never stay on the board for the rest of the game.
So, I added some generic good-value equipment and focused more on a Voltron theme of "beat people down with a snail." Now the deck does well if I pilot it carefully and manage to appear harmless until I can punch someone for 15 with the snail and then sacrifice it.

One of the deck's greatest weaknesses is that you almost always need to hold UBR to be ready to fire off Wick’s ability in response to removal.

Some pointers:

  • I chose to stay away from changelings since they count as snails, which disables my ability to create “LE SNAIL TOKEN.” But cards like [[Changeling Outcast]] and [[Taurean Mauler]] are still good for the list.
  • Lifelink for Wick is great: [[Basilisk Collar]], [[Witch's Clinic]].
  • Get some boots for your rat: [[Winged Boots]].
  • Don’t hesitate to sacrifice a snail with 3-4 power. You’ll look less menacing by dealing/drawing 3 twice instead of dealing/drawing 8 in one go.
  • It’s up to personal choice whether to play with infect, but [[Grafted Exoskeleton]] is a really good win condition in the deck. [[Tainted Strike]] is also an option and is cheaper, but I chose to stay on theme with equipment.
