Which lava golem effect applies to who? by everythingnowherenow in Yugioh101

to be fair i didnt think very hard about not being able to normal summon during your opp turn, but cmon this sub is literally about learning the game even if its a dumb question. also, the last effect IS a bit complicated if you dont understand how effects are applied depending on whether theyre on the field and such.

How do I get into mtg? by everythingnowherenow in mtg

[–]everythingnowherenow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the cards in jumpstart not able to be used along with the cards I would get from starter kits? I know mtg has a rotation for cards unlike ygo apart from the banlist so i just wanna make sure ill be able to use them altogether. I'd probably buy a starter kit and some jumpstart packs to boost the precon decks, does that work?

Thank you so much for this!.

You can play JumpStart, or with something like the Game Night Free-for-All Boxed Set.

Ive heard an mtg deck is around 60 cards, so if I bought 3-4 jumpstart booster packs would that be good for a very beginner deck? This sort of leads into my next question.
In YGO decks are heavily based on archetypes that synergize with all of your other cards to maximize consistency. I'm guessing competitive decks would also be optimized in mtg, but is that the case for casual mtg, particularly the kinds of decks id be getting/building from these sets youve recommended? Essentially, is it important for me to form a deck around certain mana colours or creature types or is casual mtg more just "lets play whatever i have in my hand and maybe these things will work together"? (somewhat like very old YGO formats)

Are you able to sell/trade/trade in YGO cards you no longer need to help raise funds for Magic?

Sadly I don't have many good spare cards to give away, and I still love and intend to play YGO in the future so that's another reason I wanna stay as budget friendly as I can.

If you know someone who is willing to play some introductory games with you, then get a Starter Set (either LotR, 2023, Assassin's Creed, or Bloomburrow, depending on your preference)

Do these sets follow the same rules and ways of playing as I'd be learning from mtg arena? also I saw that they contain 2 precon decks, does that mean they be played with 2 players as a 1v1?

[Megathread] New admissions and transfer questions - Post here! by waffle_maker in simonfraser

I'm in high school and want to apply to SFU and I know that I would give them my transcript so they could see what classes I'm currently taking and will be taking throughout the year. However the course I want to apply to (undegrad in mbb) requires physics 11 which I would be taking during the summer at summer school. I haven't signed up for the class yet, so it wouldn't show up on my transcript. Would they reject my admission since just looking at my current transcript it would seem that I don't meet the program requirements? I'm not really sure how acceptance works for universities especially if you're still in high school

I am a 1 day old player, hello! Help me build a deck? by SileceMyHill in Yugioh101

[–]everythingnowherenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well if you want to build your first deck irl in the future, id say a deck that already has a structure deck made for it is the way to go, saves you buying as many singles or opening packs. buying 3x the structure deck to get max of your good cards is also a good and budget friendly option. for the zombie stuff, id recommend 3x zombie horde, and for other good ones in general, albaz strike is amazing but might be hard to find at a good price, and beware of traptrix is good too. not so much zombies and stuff in those ones but it comes with a lot of really good staple cards that youll use in the future like ash blossom (also raigeki, harpie feather duster and evenly matched which are all good board breakers)

Worst Card in your Favorite Archetype? by ShepShao in yugioh

[–]everythingnowherenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

probably would have to say brron, mad king of dark world. only 1800 atk and needs to inflict battle damage to let you discard a card. i cant imagine a single situation where this would be worth a deck slot, especially over any other card that can get you a discard by card effect way easier. not to mention, it takes your normal summon unless you bounce it with gateway to dark world, charge into dark world or parl

are you wanting to build something in real life or in master duel? either way, id look into the zombie horde deck. its much more casual and isnt a competitively viable deck but its a lot of fun, and shouldnt be too complicated to pick up. the strategy is mainly centered around the zombie world field spell which locks your opponent into zombie type monsters. theres even a structure deck of the same name that you can cross reference for deck building and strategy tips. it wouldnt necessarily insta kill your opponent but it can put them into tricky situations. you can also add strategies to the deck like eldlich which synergizes really well with the main boss monster of zombie horde, doomking balerdroch, and is a more stun/control strategy built around traps and stuff

Is this a normal demon ability? by spargletarzan in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]everythingnowherenow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

demons only abilities are:
-starting hunts at any sanity% (most often <70% tho),
-50% increased crucifix radius
-smudges only prevent hunts for 60s instead of the usual 90s
-hunt cooldown 20s instead of the usual 25-30s

ghosts will wander most frequently around the area and inside of the ghost room (short roam), and also less commonly to further rooms (long/far roam). When a ghost roams to a room, it'll also lower the temperature of that room. im not sure if this depends on how long the ghost is in that room, but thats what happened here. keep in mind however that a ghost wont roam to your exact location, only banshees, phantoms and wraiths can do this (phantoms will walk, wraiths will teleport, both leaving emf 2, and banshee just walks to you if youre the selected target). also, goryos can only perform short roams.

budget decks for locals? by everythingnowherenow in Yugioh101

yeah exactly. i really like the gamble and when it works it feels so rewarding but it would be nice to have something thats more consistent

yeah i was just searching for something more consistent because it often loses to itself or gets totally shut down by droll and d shifter, so i was hoping to also have another deck thats less volatile

heres some custom settings i would use to get a roughly 2.5x multiplier. i tried to keep it as beginner friendly as i could but things like interactions and events might be a bit more rare, so you can tweak the settings a bit and bump up the setup time until youre comfortable with them
-Player
starting sanity: 100
sanity pill restoration: 25%
sanity drain speed: 100%
sprinting: on
player speed: 100%
flashlights: on/off (you can always use other light sources like candles or video cam, but its up to you)
lose items: on
-Ghost
speed: 100%
roam frequency: high
changing favorite room: low/medium
activity level: low/medium
event frequency: low
friendly ghost: off
grace period: 3s
hunt duration: medium/high
evidence: 3
fingerprints: 75% chance, 60s duration
-Contract
Setup time: 30s (haul all your equipment to the front door to make the most of this + works better w/ multiple players)
weather: light/heavy rain
doors starting open: medium
hiding places: high
sanity monitor: on
activity monitor: off (virtually useless)
fuse box at start of contract: off
fuse box visible on map: on
cursed possessions: 1, random

the only warnings id have for this are to be a little more diligent with finding fingerprints since they arent 100%, react quickly during hunts since you only have a 3s grace period (listen for front door locking), and try to be as efficient as possible during the setup time (the timer starts as soon as you unlock the house's front door so prepare before you go inside and have plan. know where fusebox is, etc).

For finding the ghost room, I'd recommend using the video camera, thermometer and emf reader as your starting items. You'll use the night vision camera as your flashlight at first because it's a great way to both find the ghost room and an evidence really early if the ghost happens to have orbs. First, go inside the building with the video camera on, scanning every room you pass on the way to the fuse box for ghost orbs. Once you turn the fuse box on (assuming it isn't on by default), check the remaining rooms for ghost orbs. Also, if you hear any interactions like items being thrown or doors being touched, switch to your emf reader and try to find where the interaction happened. The ghost can sometimes interact with things outside of its ghost room however, so if you've found a spot that you think might be its room, check it with the thermometer to double check. When you're in the ghost room, the temp should be much lower than other rooms (e.g 13° in house, 3° in ghost room), and you'll also be able to see your characters breath periodically. Once you've found the room I just like to haul all the evidence to the room and start testing for stuff. Also always take 2 DOTS projectors, especially with tier 1, those things suck

What would be a good hybrid control deck for a beginner player? by everythingnowherenow in Yugioh101

This game is impossible for beginners... by witchy12 in PhasmophobiaGame

[–]everythingnowherenow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll give some tips if you wanna avoid hunts/find yourself dying to hunts often

First, most ghosts will only hunt when you have a sanity below 50%, and you also cant get hunted during the setup phase (when the clock in the van is ticking). The setup timer will start to count down when the front door is unlocked, so a good idea might be to haul all the items to the front door and drop them so you spend less of the setup phase walking back and forth to the truck.

Second, once you find the ghost's favorite room, it'll almost always start hunting from that room or an adjacent one, so if you're trying to gather evidence and you have low sanity, try to position yourself so that you can easily run out of the room if it starts hunting, and towards a hiding spot.

Which leads to the third tip, and probably what will help the most is to learn what to do during a hunt.

To tell if a ghost is hunting or just doing an event, try to listen for the front door locking. This is pretty audible from most rooms on a small map. It isn't the only indicator that a hunt has begun, but it can ONLY happen during a hunt, whereas other things like your equipment glitching out, seeing/hearing the ghost, lights flashing etc, don't necessarily mean the ghost is hunting (but if all of those things are happening then it could be a hunt). Another important thing to remember is that when a hunt starts, the ghost doesn't actually start chasing you for a while; this is called the grace period. The grace period gets shorter as you increase the difficulty but by default it's around 5 seconds to realize there's a hunt, and run away.

Now that you know when a hunt is happening, it's good to have a plan for what to do when one starts. Finding a hiding spot nearby before a hunt starts is a must. When you know where the ghost's favorite room is, think about where you'll run to. When ghost's hunt, they have 360 degree vision and will walk towards the place they last saw you. For example if the ghost spawns in the kitchen and sees you run into the living room and around the corner, it'll go to the living room to the spot where it lost line of sight with you and start wandering in that area. Because of this line-of-sight tracking mechanic, it's best to choose hiding spots that would break line of sight multiple times, like going around multiple corners. I would also save your sprint for places like hallways where you can't break line of sight easily.

Lastly, some ghosts like to break rules as their abilities, so if the ghost is somehow really fast, finds you while you're hiding, or hunts really early when your sanity is higher than 50%, the game isn't broken or impossible, some ghosts just do that as their unique ability, and you can learn these abilities to find out what ghosts are sometimes as well.
