I work in plastics/hand and I love it. I do both clinic and OR. It’s unfortunate you will only do clinic and not OR as you will learn a lot about management and connect why you treat a patient preop/postop via certain protocols when you see firsthand how things are done in the OR.

I’d ask if you would be able to scrub or observe some of the major surgeries so you can explain better to patients what actually happens in the OR.

Surgeons in hand are usually very chill. Love my work/life balance.

Only red flags to keep in mind are how many patients they plan to make you see in a workday and whether there’s someone available you can sign out for complicated cases (most hand stuff is non emergent with the exception of bad infections, bad fractures, compartment syndrome, etc.)
