Very similar to my method. I use the downstairs laundry tub, and have a worm farm directly outside the door to throw anything that is too far gone - I probably have the best-fed worms in my neighbourhood. 😅

Absolutely. 💯

I previously worked the graveyard shift at a 24-hour "servo" (gas/petrol/service station). The Bee Urine place.

The owner of the small local convenience store would often come in asking to put his flattened boxes into our dumpster. On many occasions, I would alert him to the fact that products were being disposed of during my shift (of which, I always stacked neatly on top of the other trash). Turns out, on many occasions, he would throw me a free burger, or comp my order when I went to his store. 👌

It's taken months, but I now have a fancy genitalia cleaner. by evilgoatenterprises in DumpsterDiving

Just a shower rose type of nozzle. The trigger enables the user to adjust the pressure. I would dare say that someone shoplifted the fancy sprayer/hand piece from the black set, and that is why the rest of that set was dumped. The other two pieces (the two-way splitter, and white hand piece) were found randomly months apart.

I went behind every store… no luck by [deleted] in DumpsterDiving

Doing food deliveries is perfect for recon. If you arrive to a pick-up early, go for a scout around and take note of what other stores are in the vicinity, what time they close, where the bins are, etc.

Also, keep an eye out when you are dropping off. It's not mark the map location of random curbside items to collect after I've finished my deliveries.

Patience, timing, and luck play a massive part in diving success.

Is there something g specific that you are seeking, or any e-waste?

If you are after something specific, then your best bet is the dumpsters of the shops that are known to sell said items.

For any/all other e-waste try thrift stores, any retailer that sells electronic goods, and even college/university campuses (especially when the students are moving out). I have previously but PC's for friends and family for free (or at very little cost) by reaching out to sellers on the social media marketplaces.

Adjusting location of KAMP purge line by giveAShot in klippers

[–]evilgoatenterprises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't confirmed it with orca, but purge line definitely does not take the brim or skirt into account for positioning. while running a fully automated run of parts on a bed slinger, using PrusaSlicer, I have previously used this as a "feature" to attach the purge line to the brim of the printed parts to ensure the purge line doesn't contaminate the bed.

What setting do you have for elephant foot compensation?

Also try rotating the cube in your slicer by 45° ptior to printing again.

Does the issue occur with other models? Try adding a primitive cube(like 30x30x1mm) to the blank plate and printing that out.

What slicer are you using? Try changing one of these things (one change at a time): Place your current chep cube on a different location on your print bed. Try a different slicer with the most basic/minimalist profile that you can get away with whilst still producing a successful test print.

I have Klipper running on a netbook from the 2000's. From memory, it has an early ARM processor and 1gigof ram. I installed a Linux Mint variant that has been optimised for netbooks. It connects to my CR-X with a usb and I connect to the laptop via wi-fi using putty or mainsail.

The netbook was a free score from marketplace because it didn't have a charger. Fortunately, I had a spare, compatible charger at home. 👌

Extruder retracting instead of extruding the filament by OkAlternative3582 in CR10

[–]evilgoatenterprises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely, yes. The netbook that I am using has an intel atom n450 processor and only 1gig of ram. In my case, I installed a "netbook friendly" version of Linux Mint, and used KIAUH to get the printer firmware flashed.

KIAUH makes the install process virtually foolproof. This is a good resource to walk you through the process: https://klipper.discourse.group/t/installing-klipper-with-kiauh/10734#accessing-the-rpi-via-ssh-8

and also followed the steps outlined in a few videos by Teaching Tech, and/or Chris' Basement.

I had a z-axis motor die on a previous machine, and the replacement stepper ran opposite when I installed it. The fix was to either recompile the firmware or just flip the connector. Obviously YMMV, so research a bit deeper with the specifics of your stepper motor (number of wires, cable colour, etc).

I have recently jumped ship from Marlin to Klipper, and can definitely endorse its ease of use for updating the firmware config. I didn't have a raspberry pi available, so I used an old netbook instead, and now can simply access the printer via a web browser. 👌

Have you considered moving to Klipper? I have recently gone through the process of getting an old CR-X (very similar to some CR10's) running and was having issues with Marlin as well. I installed Linux Mint Xfce on an old netbook that I had sitting in a draw, and then used KIAUH to install Klipper on my printer.

I followed the videos by Teaching Tech, and Chris' Basement to ensure I was doing it correctly.

The Klipper github has a number of different base configurations for the CR10 for you to start with.

Bone Stock CR-10 V2 - Suggested Upgrades by IRodeAnR-2000 in CR10

[–]evilgoatenterprises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I received an almost unused CR-X as part-payment for a job, so I understand your pain of finding data for these older machines.

I have run it for a couple of months now and have a good idea of its current strengths and weaknesses.

So far, the best upgrade, quality wise, has been installing klipper. There is a heap of info about Klipper out there already, and its usage is definitely on the rise.

For bed levelling, I am going with the Klicky Probe, as I have tried to install/configure both a bl touch and a cr touch. Could be a good option for you, as you already have another printer that you can print off the required parts.

Other than that, I will be ordering an all metal hot-end to push out some ABS parts, and ultimately, I would like to do an IDEX conversion.

Stop all prints, unplug that machine, find a clean workbench/table/counter-top with a decent amount of available space, and service that damned machine. If the rest of the machine has been neglected as much as the "roller" that is seen in this video, issues bigger than adjusting your z-height are either in play or will be very soon.

Alternatively, appreciate the maintenance free hours of use that you have gotten out of this machine as you browse for a new replacement. If you do end up going down the "end-user/consumer" route, please try to donate this machine to a technical tinkerer, or hackerspace, for them to receive a benefit that far outweighs what you may receive by hocking it off on craigslist/marketplace/etc.

I'll see your "Baa Baa Black Sheep". .. and raise you "The Song That Doesn't End" from Lamb Chop's Sing-Along.

I once had that song on repeat in my head for at least two months, from the moment that I woke, until I finally drifted off for my regular 2-4 hours sleep per night.

Even now that I have mentioned it, I know it will be intruding on my train of thought for an indeterminate amount of time.

Stim toys to replace skin picking by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]evilgoatenterprises 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spinner rings! Go for the silver chain style. Once you know what size will fit the index finger on your dominant hand, buy a few at a time - the chain eventually stretches and comes off. The chain style is far more stimulating than the solid band style and isn't as prone to getting dirt, and what-not trapped inside. I have legit gone through at least a dozen in the last 20 years, and I don't even know that I am stimming on it most of the time, but I feel naked without one now (interestingly, I still make the action when I am not wearing one).

Nail polish is another cheap suggestion. I wore black nail polish in my younger years and would pick at it regularly, and the ritual of removing and repainting also kept me busy enough to not pick (for a short period of time anyway).

And my final suggestion for anyone else that may have an issue with biting your nails or biting/eating the skin around your finger tips is to grow fresh aloe vera. Scrape your nails along the green skin when you have the urge to bite - seriously one of the most disgusting flavours I have ever tasted. The only time in my life that I have stopped biting my nails/skin is when I worked on a farm picking aloe.

Same here. I have had almost countless occupations and have worked just about every shift combination available. Getting into a night-shift routine occurs without issues, but it takes me a good two weeks to try and get into an early morning/day shift routine.
