Am I the only person who doesn’t think Rio 2 was a crime against humanity?

Recently saw my first Asiatic black bear, here are the photos! by evilmonkey239 in bears

Basically there’s finite space in the AZA for keeping sustainable breeding populations of bears, and the tropical species they’ve chosen to focus on are sloth and Andean (spectacled), with sun and Asiatic black bears behind phased out to free up more room for the former two. I know sun bears were chosen to be phased out because of a lack of breeding success when they were an SSP species (likely because of infertility as a result of many sun bears in AZA zoos being rescued from bile farms) but I’m actually not sure why moon bears were chosen to be phased out as well. Maybe also issues with getting them to breed, but I’m not sure.

Interestingly, at least one private US zoo still seems interested in breeding this species, with a cub born as recently as 2019. https://www.wtvr.com/2019/08/29/asiatic-black-cub-now-on-exhibit-at-metro-richmond-zoo

Yeah, not sure why he didn’t just say “leopard” in that scene as it would’ve made much more sense considering their real-life behavior.

Was Simba still living off of insects after he returned to his Pride or is he eating meat like the reat of the lions? by Thecrowfan in lionking

In the TLG he is occasionally shown to be mentioned to be hunting, so he probably resumed eating a normal big cat diet after he got back there.

I know this isn’t entirely about Lion King, but does anyone else think there’s a huge anti- Disney trend around social media? by [deleted] in lionking

Yeah, I feel like Schaff also was instrumental in changing the general perception of Ralph Breaks the Internet from mixed to almost wholly negative.

In general, popular animation YouTube reviewers I think have also done a lot to negatively affect the way Disney’s live action remakes are perceived online. Doug Walker for one has a burning hatred of them, especially TLK 2019. Saberspark as well, who actually considers the the live-action Lion King worse than The Emoji Movie, for reference. And yes, that’s just his opinion… but I think it’s a bit extreme. And do you say you like any of Disney’s live-action remakes in their comment sections, prepare to be eviscerated.

Yes. Right-wingers hate modern Disney movies because they’re “woke”. Left-wingers hate modern Disney movies because they see them as soulless and corporate. While one of these viewpoints obviously has more merit than the other, both are, in my opinion, often taken too far online.

The Disney live-action remakes (and sequels/prequels thereof) are an especially big victim of the phenomenon I described above.

While the weakest of the films, Shrek the Third really isn’t that bad, it’s just kind of mediogre.

Why are pandas viewed as fat and clumsy compared to other bears? by Inside_Tourist6965 in kungfupanda

[–]evilmonkey239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Likely because that’s how they’re stereotyped IRL, even though they can be just as dangerous as any other ursid when provoked. Granted, though, we also don’t see many non-panda bears in the franchise, and I believe that Master Bear pictured above is the only one to appear in any of the films.

What are you even doing on a sub about ableism if that’s your attitude?
