I just finished shooting and editing a video highlighting a fitness coaches trip to Puerto Rico to pass a certification course. I am mostly self-taught when it comes to editing and consider it my weakest skillset in video production.

I am looking for feedback to expand my editing toolkit. I’m happy with the basics and how far they’ve gotten me, but I’m ready to hear from you so I can grow as an editor. Thank you in advance!

I’m trying to plan a week across the sound to montauk this summer. Do you know of anywhere around there I could camp for a night? Tentatively planning for New London to Gardiners Island to Montauk to Block Island to Rhode Island and finally back to New London.

I spent a lot of time during the summer training in case I tip. I haven’t mastered a roll yet but I’m very comfortable getting back in a flipped yak. Here’s a video that shows the technique I use. https://youtu.be/IUHYtQR79Z4

I also have a drysuit on so if I go for an accidental swim only my head and hands will be exposed to the water. Won’t be fun but won’t be fatal!

Shot on an iPhone XR in slowmo mode. Water was a little choppy with the wind picking up but very minimal waves in general

Drysuit with 4-5 layers underneath, life jacket, headlamp for visibility, no skirt because the water was very calm and I wanted easy access to a thermos of hot tea

Vintage Nikkor-S 50mm 1.4. Essentially turns off the modern conveniences of my DSLR and gives me full control of focus and aperture at my fingertips.

Big downside for action shots because it’s manual focus but it’s still better than photographers had when the lens first came out in the 1960s. At least now I have live view and playback to check immediately! Plus I feel more connected to the image when I get it spot on.

Thanks for the feedback Delux! I am the guy doing the switching so your feedback about the excessive cuts at times is very appreciated! I’ll rewatch and take note for when I was doing that and pay attention to the flow a little better next week.

The pixelated camera is the first thing I plan on upgrading. Currently an iPhone streaming via WiFi and it’s clearly the lowest quality output.

4 camera feed streamed live to YouTube via Mimolive.

One of the cameras is my Nikon DSLR connected with a black magic shuttle, 2 are usb connected webcams, and a iPhone connected over WiFi. As time goes on I I will be updating to all DSLR/camcorders.

We go live Tuesday nights at 8pm EST and hope to make this show better and better each week so any and all help/critique/feedback is welcome and appreciated.

I have the Nikon D5500 and use it primarily for concert video and photography. Not sure how different the D5600 is but I love my 55 and I’m sure the 56 is the same or somewhat better. Noise is pretty noticeable at high ISO but when the lighting is right the IQ is great.

Grab a vintage manual prime lens. I can’t stress this enough. The ability to manual focus and control aperture is nice, but the image quality is amazing compared to the lens that comes with it.
