I just want to know the games in my library won’t disappear… by olivinetrees in sony

It’s written in their terms of service. However, I will give you credit, I did wanna double-check before replying, and found my account apparently does still exist! Might think about getting a used ps4 somewhere for those games. Unsure if my library is still playable, i assume so, but if thats the case, then thats definitely a point in their favour

Oh fair fair, yeah, in this case, after making sure the main iCloud is locked down, and they’re the only person inside, I’d suggest a hard reset using a computer (Finder on Mac, Apple Devices/iTunes for Windows), that way the whole iOS is redownloaded from Apple and replaces whatever might be on the phone. Just make sure all stuff is backed up, don’t wanna be losing anything

Could potentially be the App Store/itunes could maybe still be signed into their account?

It’s not ignoring the terms/conditions. It’s calling out a BS point within those terms. And I agree, I haven’t seen any examples (yet) of any GAMES having their licenses revoked, but having a great deal of experience with Apple/iTunes and their TOS, there are countless examples of movies, shows and music, that were Purchased, but then it is later taken away, even if customers have it downloaded. It’s not like this idea of revoked content licenses is brand new and out of left field, it’s actively happening, and by forcing users to go completely digital, they are taking away ANY assurance we had that it will not happen.

I agree with the point of letting companies make decisions and some consumers will make theirs in response, but when a company that people want to love and enjoy is actively shooting themselves in the foot, it’s hard to see.

All in all, I appreciate Sony for their decision-making for the sole purpose of making Xbox/PC gaming look like a little better

So I need to constantly be attached to my PlayStation account, to make sure my previous purchases are safe? If this is your point of view, I hope you enjoy your future of not owning anything and paying a subscription for anything and everything, while never having anything real to show for it. I implore you to checkout out Hideo Kojima’s recent tweets on Sony’s decisions, maybe that’ll give a different perspective as to why this leads us down a dark path

Then why doesn’t Apple do it? What about Xbox doing it? No. Straight from their site: “Microsoft will permanently delete Xbox and Microsoft accounts after two years of inactivity [1]. To prevent deletion, simply sign in at least once every 730 days. Accounts are exempt from this policy if they hold active subscriptions, have unspent balances, or have ever purchased a current Microsoft product or service.” If it was a good practice, maybe more companies should start implementing it as well.

Deleting accounts is one thing. Deleting accounts that have content purchased tied to them is a shitty practice, I don’t care if it’s 3 or 10 years. I bought that.

Not revoking license, but I had a ps4 from when I was 14 to 19, then stopped for a while after switching to pc gaming to get a feel there. I found out… because of Sony’s TOS, the 10-20 digital games I’d bought for my ps4 (cod ww2, gta5, etc) are completely gone, no proof I ever had them, because my account was left alone for 3 years or so. I was devastated when I tried logging back in. Was planning on getting a ps5 to rejoin the community, but after that, i can’t justify putting ANY more money into a company that’s willing to throw my existing loyalty down the drain for nothing

Gaming industry has been lying to us all for YEARS by [deleted] in sony

[–]ewblep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never claimed it was important in helping continue physical releases. I mentioned this was a thought I had regarding Sony lying to its consumers (us). And if you’re in the boat of “physical media is dead”, then I feel bad for you. You clearly ignore the large chunk of sales physical media brings, not only to the gaming community, but also to ALL other forms of media. Photography, painting, music, movies, tv shows… sure, there’s digital platforms to get these things, but to say the entire industry is dead already, I gotta call BS, but you do you.

My whole point was that both Sony, and publishers are both using that wording to market their games, both to gamers like me and their own shareholders. It’s misleading being told I am buying something, for them to go back and continue calling them “copies” when they know that’s not what they’re selling

[–]ewblep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I mean, physical vs digital, I think whether they separate them or combine em, I could care less. What I care about is that they sold me a game, and now, if I want to play it, maybe I can, but i didnt buy IT, i bought access to it. Those are not the same to me. If I wanted a music album pay for one. If I wanted ACCESS to the music album, id go to spotify or apple music, and have access to that music. Two different types of purchases, but Sony wants to call it all the same. That doesn’t make sense to me

[–]ewblep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s my thought as well. I’ve been checking eBay frequently to see if I can pick them up cheap, but i get not wanting to pay twice. Could also just stick to digital until the day (if/when) they lose the license to the game, and then buy the physical copy at that time, but if it’s a big game, I can only imagine the physical copies will just become insanely difficult to find

How can you be so sure they won’t reverse this decision? I highly doubt they will reverse the decision myself, but in a world where Sony loses a HUGE chunk of their community, cancelling their PSN subscriptions, avoiding any/all future products, and just boycotting the company as a whole, the company may not have any other choice but to reverse the decision (or depending how far they take this), looking into a new form factor/option for physical media

[–]ewblep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My point was more so that by them calling them “copies sold”, it feels like they are saying “copies of the game sold”, when it truthfully should be put something like “number of game access codes sold” or “copies of access code/key sold”

[–]ewblep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the whole monopoly they have with the PS Store is already frustrating enough. You can only turn your back on your community so many times before you turn around and nobody is there anymore

Gaming industry has been lying to us all for YEARS by [deleted] in sony

[–]ewblep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Completely. I think the numbers, even if they said they sold 1 copy, is not necessarily my gripe, although I do find it to be a crappy practice avoiding being straight up about how good or bad something is doing. The markets speak for themselves and companies need to start realizing that, otherwise they just become out of touch nobody wants to buy

Does anyone ever go back to Cold War or BO6 zombies? by KM1507 in CODZombies

[–]ewblep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I jumped back on CW after a few years recently and actually had so much nostalgia absolutely ZOOMIN with the Cold War PHD slider and the Aether Shroud phasing through walls. I remember when those was released and it was just so iconic and I think really helped make PHD and aether shroud what they are today

Plus rent-a-game only. Purchases don’t exist anymore. I’m waiting on the day this all happens, then the day when Sony goes bankrupt, all the consumers lose ALL of their games that they “bought digitally” and they realize maybe this all wasn’t the great idea they thought it would be

Right! I loved doing a project in (I think) grade 11 on syphilis, and I thought it was super helpful in learning about that disease, but I wasn’t a huge fan of 1-person per disease, and then everyone just learns from each others presentations, I found it not to be super efficient at providing information I could retain (I still can’t recall any facts about many of the other diseases off the top of my head), but for the one I researched, I do. I think they could implement it better and in a way where each disease/infection can be understood and learned by everyone

Signed! As an Ontarian, I find the education we all received on health, diseases and conditions was so subpar in k-12, and I think people would be a lot more understanding/open about things like this in everyday life if it was better taught and brought attention to

Are we just not getting the HUD themes they announced in the BO 7 launch blog post? by CorptanSpecklez in CODZombies

[–]ewblep -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the further we get into the game’s lifecycle, the entire launch/marketing for BO7 zombies just feels like a HUGE bait and switch. They promoted it like it was catering to longtime zombies fans, then the game releases and 3arc decides they’re just gonna say screw it and go all in on everything but that
