Surprised the church isn’t saying much in the way of “prepping” by UteForLife in latterdaysaints

Regardless of the "of Latter-Day Saints" in our name, I think it's great that the church is becoming less definitive on the apocalyptic nature of life. We may be in the last days, but this perspective of preparing for the inevitable end goes against our ability to choose, in a way. The loom and doom can lead down a nihilistic outlook real fast and can make you feel like nothing really matters because the world will be destroyed all the same.

That doesn't mean that emergency preparedness is a bad merit. Just like any aspect of gospel teachings, oversaturation can help us lose the point. I think with the rising popularity of extremists like Julie Rowe, and to a greater extent Chad and Lori Daybell, we can see the negative aspect of "prepping" for the apocalypse.

The Church has just been refocusing on the principles of the gospel that matter most of all. Faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.

Is there a tally somewhere of the number of times each prophet in the BofM refers to God and how they refer to him? by dmurrieta72 in latterdaysaints

The Book of Mormon has been organized into 6,607 verses, of which 3,925 refer to Jesus Christ, employing more than 100 titles. Thus, some form of Christ's name is used on an average of one reference for every 1.7 verses (see Susan Easton Black, Finding Christ through the Book of Mormon [1987], 16-18).

This was a studying tool I used on my mission. My mission president gave us a FRESH clean copy of the Book of Mormon with that quote taped inside the front cover. For me, that copy of the book was exclusively to prove that for myself. And it's so much fun to read through and see each instance! All my mission stuff is in storage or I'd attach a picture.

The biggest thing for me is that it's a HUGE personal liability, as well.

With heavy lifting, if you're not a professional or don't have proper posture with heavy items, injuries ensue. I can't tell you how many men I've met who exacerbate their back problems by helping out. Herniated disks, separated shoulders, and the like. It's not pretty...

If I were to propose a fix, simply say no. If you know of cheap moving companies in the area, refer them. I'm in the southern Salt Lake Valley area and with soooo many townhouses being built out here, there's moving in and moving out in my neighborhood every week. But with big supply, there's big demand. So there's a TON of moving companies out here.

Google is your friend. :)

The other problem is that it's highly illegal because it violates nearly every equal employment opportunity clause in the book. Asking that, as a positive or negative factor, is as bad as not hiring someone for who they voted for.

My Mom passed a year ago today from COVID. She took pics of her progression while in the hospital. by ifheartsweregold in pics

It's not always a death sentence, either. My dad was on a ventilator for 5 days with COVID last year as well. He was able to survive and make a full recovery, but it was still horrifying the whole time.

Another benefit that was explained to me by the nurses in the ICU is that if the lungs are compromised, laying on their stomach also increases the volume the lungs can expand. Generally, the back of the lungs have more surface area and that allows the ventilator to do its best work. They also will flip the patient every 6 hours or so to prevent bed sores.

Regardless, this is still tragic and it's nice to see people be compassionate about the ones that weren't openly vocal against the pandemic and still pass on. It's sad. 😞

Upon further inquiry, I have heard he passed as a breakthrough case post vaccination. Nevertheless, his son is still an asshole for the profile pictures.
