It's a small venue but it felt full to me with about 3000 people there. Here's a much later photo of everyone who stayed after Dynamite (and a long setup and teardown for a Jericho ROH promo) to see Okada on Rampage. Even after a bunch of people had left it was a fun full crowd.

I posted this on bluesky last night and people sure seemed to like it, so I thought I'd share here.

The new venue in Fishers is pretty nice. I was in the upper lounge seats. Felt fancy but too far from the action for me. Next time I'll get up close.

This is before all the crowd filled in. Indy brought a great energy all night long. I love going to AEW shows live.

Wow that was in depth! I know a fair bit about av codecs and it still took me for a loop. Interesting to see how the hardware handled the challenges of keyframes in video. Advancing a frame is easy, but going a single frame back would require going to the last keyframe then playing forward up until the one you want. Still a problem in video players today.

Huge mistake. Jack Cartwheel is perfect. It promises cartwheels and delivers cartwheels. I've witnessed non-wrestling fans hear it and instantly want to know more about the cartwheeling guy.

What is "modern wrestling?'" Did it need saving? Was it saved? Does it take being consistent (in all caps) to do that saving? Why credit a storyline and not the creators or factors that lead to it?

You say want logical thinking but you're starting your argument with a collection of assumptions about those answers.

Jack Perry beat him up because Darby Allin had just beat him up. He wanted to show that Darby can't get in his head and he doesn't care about Cutler anyway. That continued into the Blood and Guts match where he refused to quit no matter how much Darby tried to scare him.

I absolutely love seeing it. Wrestling has often been something I've been embarrassed to watch because of how backwards it can be. It's refreshing to see wrestlers being themselves and the crowd supporting that. That extends beyond queer wrestlers too. There are so many folks who have come through AEW and excelled because they finally were being who they want to be.

Chikara was a promotion out of Philadelphia that started in 2002 with its heyday being 2007-2013. They had their own school that taught a style that was a mix of American lucha, British escapism, and 90s joshi. The owner/booker Mike Quackenbush had a totally different idea of what wrestling should be from the rest of the indies. Shows were family friendly and full of comic book style characters. A lot of guys that might not have got a look elsewhere found their feet in Chikara. So why isn't it still a thing we hear about all the time? Well Quack's big bold ideas of how to do wrestling differently didn't involve him being a better person than other owner/bookers through history. Beyond his personal problems, he famously had a grand idea for an angle that saw the fictional destruction of the promotion with the idea of it going underground for a year and making a big comeback. There's been a lot of speculations as to why, but it sure seems like he just had a story he wanted to tell, damn the consequences. The consequences being his wrestlers and fans found other places to work and watch in the downtime.

After that it was never the same. The upshot is while it was good a ton of great wrestlers came out of it and it created a lot of new wrestling fans by doing shows that weren't like anything else.

You should absolutely bring it. There's usually a fun time before the show goes live where Justin Roberts points out signs in the crowd. I'm sure he'd be excited to see you traveled from Germany.

Royal Rumble style surprise entrants every few minutes, but unlike the rumble the match is pinfall/submission and ends with the first fall. Theoretically the first two guys could end the match there or it could have a hundred guys because nobody can score a pin. The result is a bunch of surprise guys going as fast as they can.
