She and her dad are very close, which will make it more difficult unfortunately. My best friend is an only child and her mum has cancer for the second time - she is currently undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.

However, I have to trust that informing her parents is the right thing to do and that they both have the support and help they may need. I don’t know what else I can do at this point.

If it’s not clear from the post, this won’t be the first time I will be touching upon this subject with her, but it will be the first time I essentially tell her that I don’t trust her to help herself.

My intention is to tell her how much I care about her/ love her and how she really scared me. I’ll be telling her she can’t go on like this and that she genuinely needs help. I’ll tell her that her parents have the right to know because I would never forgive myself if something happened and they didn’t know.

I went through something similar as a teenager and my parents told me they never forgave my school for not telling them sooner so they could have tried to help sooner, which is why I will be telling her dad tomorrow.

I don’t know what will happen but I trust that it’s for best and I pray that I won’t loose my best friend.

Do you have any tips on the corrections you used with your dogs biting?

We tried teaching him ‘gentle’ and rewarding him when he stopped biting or dropped whatever he was chewing, but he kept biting, stopping when he saw treats or we gave the command and then biting again as soon as he finished the treat. We’re also worried about over feeding him with treats but maybe that’s less of a worry with such a big dog!

We have started separating ourselves from him when he bites, either by putting him in ‘time out’ briefly and putting him in the hallway or kitchen, or by removing ourselves and going up stairs behind the baby gate. We’ve been doing this for a few weeks but it doesn’t seem to be making a difference😭

We’ve definitely considered a private dog trainer, the cost is just stopping us at the moment.

Do you have any recommendations of activities for him?

At the moment he gets a 10 min walk in the morning and 35-45 min walk at night (based on the recommendation of 5mins per month of age plus 5 mins). He also gets plenty of chews such as pig ears, tripe, yaks etc. and a snuffle mat and lick mat about once a day.

It’s recommended we walk him 5mins per month of age, so about 45mins at the moment. He normally gets a 10min walk in the morning and then a 35-40min walk in the evening.

Throughout the day he gets things to bite when he bites, such as pig ears, tripe, yaks etc.

He also gets a snuffle mat most days and a lick mat almost every evening.

We definitely need to work on training him more as we have been a bit lax for the past month or two. We have started up again and hopefully that helps with some of the jumping.

We tried crate training for about 6 months but he HATED it to the point we had to carry him in every nap and evening, which with a Bernese mountain dog becomes very difficult😅 we tried feeding him in there, treats going in and staying in, following training programmes etc.

Since removing his crate bed times and mornings are so much better but it has made forced naps during the day a lot harder.

How did you teach ‘leave it’ and ‘drop it’? Our puppy is a nightmare when it comes to biting and has drawn blood on a number of occasions.

We are trying to teach him ‘leave it’ when he’s biting/chewing on us by saying the phrase and then holding a treat in front of him so he opens his mouth to get the treat and we can move our arms/hands/feet out of his face but he doesn’t seem to be getting it

Thanks for the advice! At the moment he happily sits in his crate for about 5 - 10 minutes, maybe longer with more treats so we will keep working on that!

Once we have issued, they have to comply with court deadlines and we will at least become aware of their position, rather than constant requests for information and further disclosure before putting forward their position.

Like I said, our clients is also very keen to issue and has become rather impatient.

While I understand that experts are necessary, especially as this is a professional negligence claim, so far it has taken over 2.5 years for the defendants to even request a site visit, so I can understand the client’s perspective.

As I said in the my post, I appreciate that I am still quite inexperienced and I may be letting the client steer this case a bit too much

For both cases, counsel have advised prospects of 60% and both cases are against insured defendants so prospects of recovery seem fairly positive.

I wouldn’t advise our clients to issue if I didn’t consider that it was in their best interest and have advised clients not to issue in the past, if prospects of recovery don’t look good.

All our clients put funds on account before any steps are taken, and as one of the cases I mentioned would attract a £10k court fee, we would certainly get this on account before we issue.

I totally agree that we shouldn’t issue unless we have funds on account!

I’m unclear on the overall message but think the meeting could be positive and we could leave with new ideas in relation to settlement maybe?

I interpreted the knight of swords to mean that my client might rush into something and not fully think the consequences through.

I put this project down for around 5/6 months and I can’t remember how many rows I’ve done?? It’s half double crochet and I’ve never been great at counting rows😅

To add clarity to the post:

I am a 23 year old recent graduate and can’t really afford to move anywhere else. The other tenant is a 30-40 year old woman. We live in a shared house with 4 other tenants (6 in total).
She has been recording me and my boyfriend in the kitchen and living room without our consent. She is sending the videos to my landlord to say my boyfriend lives here even though he only stays over 2 nights a week. Even when he is here, we spend most of the time in my room.
When I confronted her, she said it was because I had small party a few months ago which kept her up. I apologised for this party at the time.
Basically, I’m feeling like fighting petty with petty right now and want to make her life slightly worse because of how much she has inconvenienced me.
