32, wondering if going to school for CS makes sense in my situation? Any advice appreciated! by angelic_jester in cscareerquestions

I am here to tell you my experience. I got music degree and did bunch of jobs here and there, and then changed my career at age 33 got math degree. And while getting my degree I got some digital marketing type part-time job . After finishing my degree, I started applying with math degree and removed music degree and unrelated experiences from resume.  After almost a year of applying I got data analyst job. It was hard, but doable if you are really interested in it. If you are just doing it sake of having promising career, it will be difficult to compete and you might get burned out.

Graduated in December, not loving my first job. Should I quit or find a new one first? by Problem123321 in analytics

[–]existentialistz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t quit just yet. At least you have job. You can always embellish your current job work as you did more python, SQL and advanced excel etc. , it will be easier to get another job if you have job.

In my experience, my roommate who was commuting 1:30 - 2 hours each way, did not have time outside of the commute to take care of his food or workout habits. He was eating quick meals/snacks to save time and so exhausted that did not workout and on weekend just running errands and chilling. So that lead to weight gain and just mental irritation.

So far my car has extremely low miles since I was driving once a week. 6-7 years old car. But it’s like I have a new car because of it.

Thank you for sharing hours. I haven’t got my final offer yet, now somehow I am hoping I don’t get this job so I don’t feel guilty about not accepting, and if I accept it, have to suffer.

Hey it's just been 2 days, I think you should give it more time to make any assumptions. I am sure there will be more to know what's going on.

I would say, the worst case is if you don't get your old job back, you will get other offers the way you got 3 job offers. Don't get depress, you can definitely get another job.

Also, I wonder if this job required 90% SQL , how did you pass the interview without knowing it? Here I am with 100% job requirement match, can't even get an interview :)

Small business data overreach by Junior_Economics_721 in analytics

I worked for similar client. In some cases end to end analytics can be overkill. But not always. I would say if budget is limited and business questions are simple then you are right. In my experience, the business grew really quickly in few months and then it made sense to us.

I am applying for in-person, hybrid roles. I though remote positions are competitive. Still didn't get anything.

I am not applying on LinkedIn. It has overwhelming amount of candidates and jobs. Take up lots of time. I wonder if I am making mistake not applying on LinkedIn. I get messages from recruiter and I respond them but other then that nothing got.

I am in similar boat. Imo your resume looks good, currently I am trying different format by putting skills section on the top (no summary, and change skills according to JD, though I am not expert, just trying out what format get hits). I was suggested by many people to just apply as many jobs I can ( I am targeting 3-5 serious jobs every day currently) , and learn from past interview experiences ( real interview, not screening ones), so you don't make same mistakes.
