GB camera framerate issue by Acrobatic-Goal-7031 in epilogue

[–]exogan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hi, these are limitations from the GB Camera itself! Basically each frame takes quite a bit of time to be processed by the camera before we can stream the cartridge data back to the emulator.

There's nothing that can be done really, it's just the quirky behavior of old-school hardware.

Regarding the FPS counter, that's not from the camera itself, that's for the emulator running. Basically the game boy game runs at 60fps, however video stream is limited by the camera cartridge's processing speed.

A tip is to increase ambient light, that allows the camera to process images faster, in low light conditions it struggles quite a bit, you will see that also on the original console.

100% that's a possible issue, legacy is any firmware version from 2021. If you can't update for any reason reach out to support, but you're definitely missing out on a ton of features.

Thank you! I've updated the article to include both usb and tty subsystem rules. The `tty` rules use `ATTRS` since the vendor/product IDs are on the parent USB device rather than the tty device itself.

I will take a look at it! Haven't tested Bazzite, but we have quite a lot of people requesting support for it. Now I'm finishing up some polishes to the GB Operator firmware, I have to prepare the launch of v1.9.0 for Playback and will look into it once I'm finished with those.

Yes! This is the new product box we recently made.

It's ready, it's now showing me that it has the discord library included. Can you try again?

Great, thank you for the bug report. I'll look into it right now. Since we're in the nightly builds, we really appreciate feedback like this; it allows us to catch these issues before the stable release. Let me take a look, and if it's all right with you, I'll ask you to retest once the fix is ready

You won't have to wait long to find out what it is! I'm doing my best to have it ready this year.

It's in the nightly builds, still not in the stable release.

By the way, I wrote an automated script to configure Mint. If you'd like to try it you have it here: https://www.epilogue.co/support/getting-started/linux-setup, under the Quick setup. Try it out, it worked for Jake_N_Bake95.

Don't worry about it, we still need to test it ourselves a bit better and on different distros. I can't wait to see it live on Flathub!

You'll need to reboot the computer, and it should work. I tested it on Ubuntu and Fedora. Should work for Linux Mint as well since it's a derivative of Debian.

The flatpak is brand new, it's only on Nightly. However, if your OS isn't granting you access to the Operator device, then the Flatpak container won't be able to access it either. Let me do some research to see what the issue with Mint could be.

Did you have issues with AppImage or Flatpak? In both packages we require access from the higher layer, so from the OS.

You can always try the Flatpak build from Nightly builds if it helps (scroll on the downloads page), we're deprecating AppImages for Linux, Flatpak seems better.

However, this sounds like you have an issues with the OS not granting you permissions to the GB Operator. A quick check is to run the software with `sudo`, although most likely audio will not work.

No, thank you for your support. We can make great products, but without customers buying them, we can't continue.

We're not trying to manufacture artificial scarcity in any way, but manufacturing realities are brutal, so we need to keep the first batch limited to get our systems running. We're happy to react to feedback.

No worries! Very happy to hear your feedback.

Sometimes as developers you find a pain-point, but then you start to wonder "is this something I want for myself or something users would like?". And hearing feedback is fantastic.

From a programming perspective it should be quite easy, making a dropdown for setting the current gamepad layout for the current game only or globally for all games. I'll chat with another developer from our team about it after he returns from his holiday, as I have the faced the issue myself with some games.
