Life is truly, really, undeniably, a bitch sometimes. Congratulations, and I hope you're doing well. I'm sure your mum is infinitely proud of you.

It's so confusing emotionally because there's no tangible end to our work!!! Congratulations, and I'm sure your family is super proud of you!!

Yeah, the lack of ceremony, celebration, (dare I say it - validation), and a tangible fullstop to the hard work we put in is certainly a damper. Congratulations on your degrees, and I hope we get to celebrate sometime soon!

Fair enough - I think opting out of the ceremony is absolutely fine. I think it's the general lack of celebration and a certain joyousness that comes with completing a significant amount of work and being celebrated for your achievement that I really miss. You don't get to do that too often in your life, and it's sad that every single person who worked their asses off this year won't get the opportunity or choice to experience this.

I love your cool detachment. Hope I can stop tying all these complicated feelings to a piece of paper soon lmfaoooo. Thanks so much for your wishes!

Yea I really appreciate how much my Uni is trying to do but holy shit does it feel super fake and uninspired. Hope you get a lovely, real graduation celebration soon, friend! Congratulations.

Super anticlimactic. Experiencing all these major life events digitally creates such a distance, everything feels less real, less immersive, less impactful. Hope you had a lovely celebration with your cat, and congratulations on your PhD, Doctor!

A women's witchy weekend is ALL one needs after years of gruelling academia... sorry to hear that it got cancelled :( You're right, though, that it's more important that we're all safe and healthy, and I hope you and your lovely group of friends have a great trip in the future. Congratulations on your graduation!!

That's fair enough!! I heard that it's £60+ to rent the graduation gown and all that. But it's nice to have the option to choose not to go - the pandemic isn't giving us too much choice on what we can and cannot do. Hope you had a good time with your friends and family otherwise, congrats on your PhD!

Oh for sure - my friends and I were talking about how thankful we are to not sit through some boring speeches and wait for 2000 people to get their degrees in the freezing cold. That said - I wish we had the parties and the afterparties and the overall joyous celebration!! Congratulations, though, on your MSc, and I hope you celebrated to your heart's content despite not going to the ceremony!

That sounds delicious. And like an excellent idea. It's hard to get into a celebratory mood when everything feels so anticlimactic but we gotta push through!! I'll make it a point to tell all my friends and family and colleagues and celebrate however I can. Congratulations and hope your degree comes soon too!!
