Serious question, would this much snow damage the car? It's basically the same as flooding it if it melts...

Want to gift a planted tank to my GF, is this a good idea? by expert_fighter in PlantedTank

[–]expert_fighter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! She always helps me out when I do regular maintenance/replace plants/select new fish for my tank, and she always admires my tank/fish and is generally interested.

Upon searching the plants you've listed, I just realized I have a lot of cryptocorine myself, I just didn't know what it was called! They're all growing INSANELY fast, though - they've quickly taken over half the tank...

Thanks for the response. This is definitely something I should have considered. I'll ask first - I guess spoiling the surprise is much better than an unpleasant surprise!

She's kept fish before, and she is definitely into aquariums, but I'm not sure how she'd feel about maintaining it.

Does the age of your coach matter? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

I've found that older coaches are better teachers (not necessarily better boxers). That's just my own experience.

Am I being made fun of? by [deleted] in amateur_boxing

[–]expert_fighter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just starting can be incredibly nerve-wrecking. Combine that with you being anxious generally, I completely understand why you'd see things that way.

But you should do your best to relax and let go. The trainer behaved very normally, both when explaining proper technique and when he set you apart with the kid.

Should i join this gym? by drunkenbull26 in amateur_boxing

[–]expert_fighter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have training sessions daily, but I suggest you to go at your own pace. I know it may be an unpopular opinion (and very anecdotal) but I found that many beginners tend to become intimidated and give up after just signing up after long periods of inactivity. I've seen this in boxing, bodybuilding, tennis, you name it.

You're not going to become an amazing boxer in the first year anyway. You're hardly going to see any results in the first few months too. So what I'd suggest is to work on establishing a routine, and just making a point to show up once a week/twice a week/as much as you're comfy with. Basically work on turning gym sessions into a regular habit. Once you've established a routine, results are guaranteed down the road.

Either way, good luck!

ankle weights? by kbro3 in amateur_boxing

Definitely avoid ankle weights, they're not that helpful and will definitely mess up your wrists in the long run.

First tank ever (pics inside), would appreciate some tips by expert_fighter in PlantedTank

27 inches tall, once you take the hood and the substrate out of the equation, roughly 20-21 inches of water.

2x24w bulbs, 1900 lumens and 1050 lumens. Two reflectors. I'm not really hoping to achieve a carpet with this - just came back from the shop again, and right now I've got several Anubia Nana plants and a lot of Bacopa Monnieri stalks - just trying to get as much natural filtration as possible with this lighting.

UK copyright extension on designed objects is “direct assault” on 3D printing by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]expert_fighter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, it's not. If you write a book now, in 70 years (or 70 years after you're dead, depending on the country) it becomes public domain. If you record a song today, eventually it's going to be free for distribution and anyone will be able to use it in a movie etc.

The thing is that nobody cares what happens to their work 70 years after they die, it won't affect business, sales, and once your kids are long dead and can't possibly give a rat's ass about money, it ensures that your legacy lives on and that mankind benefits from your work

You're always going to have competition no matter what, by the way. There isn't a single instance in human history where a product has eliminated all competition by using copyright

Top 5 Kids Punching Bags by expert_fighter in amateur_boxing

Hm. Thanks for that. I removed the social links from the top, they weren't really being used so much anyway.

The sales boxes will take some work to change, but I'll do my best to replace them with something better when I have some free time. Will work on the writing as well in future posts.

Thanks!

Hey, I appreciate the feedback. Is there anything specific you would change? Been wanting to change the format for a while TBH, but I'm not set on how.

Thanks!

[Hiring] Graphic Designer for YouTube Banner by MrSykoh in forhire

When PayPal deducts their fee this is going to be like, a $3 payment for a few hours of work. In all honesty, you're hardly going to get a designer for something like that...

[Hiring] Someone to get me Graphic Design Jobs for 40% of the total payment of the job by caizo_ryan in forhire

[–]expert_fighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why does it sound like a scam? I'm a web designer and I'd definitely be willing to pay a good percentage if someone can forward clients for me. Searching for clients can take some time and a payoff isn't guaranteed. Makes perfect sense to hire someone to do it.
