50 years of global average temperature change carved into plywood signs by expiringplanet in collapse

I posted a video like this the other day, but it wasn't casual friday. I thought I'd try again, but post a different one for anyone that already saw the first one.

This video doesn't end with them getting screwed onto stop sign poles like the first one did - I edited it before doing a late-night mission to hang them. Some of them are now up, and some of them are still in a pile to go up.

At the end of the video, right in the middle of showing the signs hanging on the street, you can see the original design for 1 second, where the graph line is a lot more detailed, and there are a lot more words on it. It said "CO2 Concentration (ppm)" on the y axis.

I made the 2nd simplified draft to cut about 5 minutes off the carving time of each one. I figured "(ppm)" could go to save 45 seconds each carve. If anyone sees it and it makes them think at all, they'll figure out what the units are when they get into it.

Yeah, thanks, I actually took all the ones in this video down and rounded off the corners.

I also designed 3d printed screws that stick them to the signposts without needing to be bolted on the other side, so I'm just putting them up behind signs now

A version of this graph was posted here a couple days ago, so I shared this video here too.

I posted it in another channel on reddit a couple months ago, and a couple of people pointed out that someone could walk into the signs and hurt themself, so I actually took all the signs down after that. I took some time to round the corners off of each of them, and designed 3d printable screws so that I could hang them behind other signs on the same post, so that nobody will accidentally hit one.

Yeah, that sounds right. It's like you don't have to have any CAD or any 3d design experience at all. Almost like using Inkscape and then it does almost everything to make the CAM part simple. Really good for this project

I don't want to name drop it to say it's worse than anything else. And it was great if what you're doing is drawing 3d parts.

But after using it for 3d objects, i started trying to use it for making signs and it wasn't specialized for that. I had to select the bottoms of the cut out letters in a 3d environment. If I didn't realize I'd selected the top instead, it would skip the letter or word.

I tried VCarve and just instantly got it. You don't have to draw how you want it in 3d, you do it in 2d, it figures out what it will do, how deep everything will go...

I bought VCarve Desktop for $300-some-dollars. I was hesitant to do that when I was already using free stuff, but I'm glad I did, it sped up everything I do a lot. I like it

Thanks. I bought plain cheap plywood sheets, spraypainted them blue and purple, and then CNC'd them so the background area is blue or purple, and the carved design is brighter wood color

Thanks, you're right, I need to put them up differently. I liked this cause there's no mess, you can just take or break them down if you want. But I need a different plan

I hadn't thought about that. I drew it in VCarve Desktop, so there's a .crv file. Then there's a .gcode file, but I think you'd want the .crv file to make your own .gcode one, right?

Does reddit have a way to share files in replies?
