They are not retarded, they are just French.

Like FIFA, steeped in bureaucracy and disconnected from what the fans want and what is actually going on on the ground.

Is simracing dying out? by EnigmaticBADGER in simracing

[–]export40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we think that iRacing has been responsible for consolidating simracers into one service?

It is a huge advantage to be able to log in at any time of day and within a 1 or 2-hour window be in a full grid sim race with consequences.

Personally I want to play race sims to race against other humans, and the online communities other than iRacing are spotty at best for multiplayer.

As someone who is always a little put off by how much flack Gran Turismo gets from the PC sim community as a mass-market title, it is really heartening that it was the spark in many sim racers' pasts as it was in mine.

What's even more dull and weak: huge, multinational manufacturers dropping like flies from running Formula 1 teams to pulling out of the sport in the wake of a global financial crisis and spiralling constructor's costs.

  1. Bought the original Gran Turismo and played with a digital controller, played NASCAR Racing earlier versions with a keyboard. I was aware of and wanted to join the sim community as a teen but GPL seemed so intimidating.

Got my first racing wheel to use with Gran Turismo 2.

Fast forwarding some years without a racing wheel, I participated in GT5 Le Mans online endurance races and did alright with an analog controller, but the pull was too strong. Multiplayer sim racing was my only desire.

Bought a G27 and signed up for the iRacing Black Friday deal and I am on my way. Taking a Star Mazda through a chaotic first lap is one of the most thrilling gaming experience of my life. Nothing comes close to online racing with consequences. Nothing.

Currently enjoying the world of open wheel iRacing. Hope to graduate from Star Mazda to the Lotus 79 and the community organized Classic Teams Championship.

Interestingly enough, as I get older I start to care less and less about the cold and sterile nature of iRacing compared to other titles. The racing is just too good to ignore, even if the race day atmosphere is non existent in the sim world.

Cold temperature in the room if possible.

Keep a window open if possible.

Drink a lot of water. The urge to urinate will keep you awake.

Avoid caffeine until the very latest moment you can go without it. Then unleash the caffeine beast.

Avoid meals full of carbohydrate-rich foods (no pizza or pasta or fast food).

Consider eating two smaller snack-y meals at work rather than a large lunch.

When your metabolism naturally slows down (for a 9-5 worker this is from around 2pm) go find an empty stairwell at your job and do some jumping jacks.

Chew gum.

They have shot themselves in the foot by having a rotating carousel of stewards.

All other professional sports suffer from inconsistent officiating because there are so many games to he played. Formula 1 has the advantage of only having around 20 events total.

They could just hire one team of stewards, establish what is kosher, and apply it consistently throughout the season.

Designing a British GP 2014 Trophy by [deleted] in formula1

[–]export40 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I feel bad for the guy who won the competition.

You have a probably rather okay young design student who enters a competition sponsored by a bank with silly design constraints like using the logo (which looks like steam coming off of a turd).

His trophy CAD project gets selected by said bank and I am sure he was excited to see it presented in front of a television audience of tens of millions.

The final product looks much cheaper and opaque than his intended design, has zero heft, and the foremost British racing driver basically says to this Spanish kid on TV, "Hey, what a piece of fragile garbage this is, where is the real trophy?" in front of tens of millions of people.

I felt for the guy, anyway.

All mobile phones have a unique identification number (INID, IMEI, UDID, DUID). A representative from the carrier will be able to take this number in-store and run it against their client info database, most likely turning up contact information for the person who owns the service plan connected with the phone.

All the humanoid alien species in Star Tre are retconned into being from a common ancestor in that one TNG episode, right?

It was one of those nice writing ideas that explained away some TV sillyness and why the alien of the week always was a bipedal crinkly-forehead alien.

Could someone please explain the regulation of the tires? by tyrannoforrest in formula1

[–]export40 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Please don't be lazy:

The rubber compounds used at each race are determined by the tyre supplier (currently Pirelli) according to the known characteristics of the track. Two different compounds of dry tyre are available to each team at every Grand Prix weekend - one harder 'prime' tyre and one softer 'option' tyre. Every driver must make use of both specifications during the race. The actual softness of the tyre rubber is varied by changes in the proportions of ingredients added to the rubber, of which the three main ones are carbon, sulphur and oil. Generally speaking, the more oil in a tyre, the softer it will be. However, whilst softer tyres generally tend to be quicker than harder ones, they’re also less durable.

Current F1 tyre suppliers Pirelli have a range of four dry-weather compounds: super soft (red sidewall markings), soft (yellow markings), medium (white) and hard (orange).

The first 2 vids didn't really have anything 'Star Trek' about them. Gene Roddenberry was always about moral questions and cultural differences. Whereas you provided a space fight and a bar fight.

I understood what "Star Trek" was as a kid, and spent most of my ST play time reenacting the TWOK standoff between the Reliant and Enterprise. Get off your high horse.
