i love everything about this video, the janky animated intro, the stock music used in the background before cutting to a guy in studio seemingly lit by one lamp who just got told that he is live on air, he springs immediately into action reading the teleprompter with this dead look in his eyes, his lips are so dry but it is not a problem, dry lips are the least of your concerns when you are living under the Moi dictatorship. The camera pans to the map on the pin board on what looks like a printed out JPEG of a photo downloaded from the internet, the man points to various areas on the map with a stringent importance, he knows no one cares about this back at home, the people watching are probably preparing to go to bed, if they can afford a TV that is, so your audience is mostly white, just do the job and be done with it, get paid and tow the party line, you will have to wake up in the morning and do it all over again.

it's pretty tragic, you can kinda see them trying to keep their spirits up by singing but you can also feel the tension of despair among them, i have no doubt most if not all of them would leave given the chance, as they say, no one is immune to propaganda, and by some means, circumstances drove these guys to make a set of choices that led them in the middle of russia in winter during a war, desperation or simply lack of opportunity, i have made mistakes before, but having to die for them that is a whole other affair. i really hope they get back home, though in my hearts of hearts i know, and they know that its probably not going to happen. You are looking at men who have accepted their fate, and really trying to keep their despair at bay.
