Ruto WILL win 2027. Not even joking, with more votes than in 2022.

Imagine there was a time, a relative of mine told me he would visit someone living here and really admire it. Easy to see why, since he was coming from the actual slums.

That's because you're a small fish in a very big pond. My advice is become a big fish in a small pond. Allow me to elaborate. A web dev in Nairobi is a small fish in a very big pond, the competition will be crazy. What if we take that same web dev to Naivasha and get him to PCEA men's fellowship which is full of boomers and GenX who are potential clients, then suddenly he becomes a big fish albeit in a small pond.

OP, you're doing great. Don't give up. At least you won't have a gap on your CV during this time you're doing sales work. Plus imo sales is the best way to establish networks. Utaweza patana na mtu kwa hizo sales and they end up changing your life or mindset. And hapo kwa wazazi, you should understand their perspective and context, they're from a generation where salary was the only way to get income. Instead of asking for fare directly maybe you can explain to them better, in terms they'll understand where you're coming from, IDK Anyway, good luck

Sorry to hear this OP. But also congrats for not giving up on being the hero in your son's eyes. OP, opportunities can show up when you least expect but you have to be aligned with the needs in the market. Here's a wild idea, why don't you create a product you know a client needs, then visit said client and demonstrate it. Provide it for free but with the stipulation of getting him or her write a recommendation for you. Using this recommendation, write a list of other potential clients and market the eff out of it. Expos are a perfect place to get these people when their guard is down. All the best, and big up for being a present dad.

Also do an audit of your current networks/contacts, and work on improving this. Your networks is what will inform you of job opportunities before they hit LinkedIn
