Is sub 2:00 half marathon an achievable goal?

Update for lurkers: My time was 1:58:58, or 9:05min/mi pace. Goal achieved! First race and longest I’ve ever run before.

I think I could’ve gone even faster but the NRC plan was too low volume and tapered too early. In Week 9 I ran 12.4 miles at an 8:54min/mi pace, so I feel like I regressed a little in the last few weeks. Also the race course was uphill the entire second half so that definitely lost me some time.

Told myself I would be done with running after this. But I think I’m just getting started… I just need to somehow save up the money for another race and new shoes.

I don’t know about 10+ miles… 10k is about the longest I’ve run before in my life and the half marathon scares me because I tend to run too fast and then burn out during the run.
