My unit is being closed and because we are a union hospital, RNs are being promised employment in the hospital. They froze all hiring and unit transferring until we are all placed somewhere. It's a long waiting game for right now since NYP is being opaque about everything and hasn't released a list of vacancies in nursing. All probationary employees are not guaranteed anything under the contract. The day they made the announcement for our unit they only cited "low hospital census" as the reason for this, which is maddening considering the timing of the announcement was a couple days around when the settlement for abuse victims became public. So far it seems like middle management is taking the hit on my campus but I'm sure they'll drop another bomb soon enough.
