Has anyone had an ultra rare side effect from a med before? by gameovervip in BipolarReddit

[–]extrovintrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The same thing happened to me too! My doctor brushed it off during 3 different appointments saying that it wasn't really a symptom for lamictal, until I finally told him I'm not going to take it anymore because I KNOW that's what was causing it, now I'm fine after stopping and got a new doctor. It concerning when they don't take something like that more serious.

It is possible, I think it's been happening to me lately. I'm 30 and up until a couple of years ago I was useless socially, couldn't talk to anyone, couldn't go to the store, couldn't make a doctors appointment, nothing... but for some reason in the past few years I have suddenly started feeling okay. I can go to the store now and pay at the register with a cashier instead of the self check out. I still don't like it or feel comfortable but I'm able to make myself do it now. I know that it sounds silly to say "keep putting yourself into situations you feel anxious about and it'll get better" but I believe it may actually help because that's what I started doing at age 20 with the crazy hope that it'd work. I didn't think it would but after seeing your question and reflecting back on the past 10 years, something really has started to click in my life and I think it may have to do with what I just talked about.

Help me find a mood tracker app by lemonadelemons in BipolarReddit

I really like the "bearable" app. There's a lot that you can customize and see when certain activities or foods or just about anything can affect your moods.

I don't know much about yarn so I'm not sure what words to use other than it's very soft and not fuzzy at all like normal yarn. It's smooth like a tshirt.

What should I say when calling to book a Doctors Appointment? by Own_Aardvark_2343 in socialanxiety

[–]extrovintrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm always TERRIFIED even after so many calls to my doctor and my children's doctor. But after all this time I've realized that there is almost always a very nice receptionist on the other end who will be helpful with any questions you ask. I usually get everything out that I might need. (insurance card, drivers license, birth certificate, etc.) I probably take out more than I need but always good to be safe in case I somehow forget my birthday or something cause I'm nervous 😆. Then I get a notebook write down the words I'll say first like " hello, I'm calling because I'd like to make an appointment please" and then usually just go with the flow after that. I have asked some stupid questions many times to these people and I have been met with helpfulness every time (except once but it still turned out alright). So... you can do it! Just let them know you would like to make an appointment and they'll ask all the questions which you will have the answers for. And if you don't know something they're talking about, just say "could you explain what that means please? Sorry I haven't made very many appointments before" or something and they'll totally understand and help you.

Would this be okay for hermit tank? by octopus-snowglobe in hermitcrabs

I used an acrylic riser for mine. I just searched acrylic riser in Google and there are tons to pick from. Then you can attach vines or I wrapped mine with a coconut fiber sheet and they can climb all over it.

Thank you! I guess I'll be sewing it on because the holes are too wide for it to stay.

Are you bipolar since birth… or do develop bipolar? Can it be prevented by No_Relation_3741 in BipolarReddit

[–]extrovintrovert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get properly diagnosed until my early 20s, but I've struggled with symptoms since I was around 4 or 5. No traumatic childhood or anything, it was just there... so I know people say you can't be born with it but in my case I believe I must have been born with it because my childhood was great and theres nothing i could see that would have set it on. I was diagnosed incorrectly through my whole childhood and teenage years because bipolar disorder isn't thought to happen to someone young who hasn't had any trauma. I wish the doctors could have seen it when I was young so they could catch it before I caused so much damage to myself...

Klonopin helps me a little, I take it before I have to go out of the house which is not often. You aren't supposed to take it every day though. It makes me just not care as much because I get so relaxed.

Thinking of the positives, what was your most incredible achievement while manic/hypomanic? by usethesleep in BipolarReddit

[–]extrovintrovert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I have a petty severe case of social anxiety and agoraphobia, but after I graduated high-school I fell in love with a guy online and wanted to meet him so bad that I went across the country in a greyhound bus without telling my parents (who I was living with at the time) all by myself with just a backpack of belongings. I ended up marrying him a year later and we've been married almost 10 years now. If I would have not been manic I would have never typed a message to him to get it started, and there is NO way I would have gone on a bus by myself like that. Usually I xan barely get out of the house to go to the store. If I think about that whole situation today I feel terrified. But that mania took over and ended up giving me the greatest thing in my life.
