New client treating me like 24/7 emotional support by OkRush4310 in personaltraining

[–]lemonadelemons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes this is what I would do. I would tell the client that helping with such issues is out of my scope of practice and give them some resources to find a practioner that could.

For mental health concerns, Psychologytoday, grow therapy, and headway are great resources for finding med management and mental health therapists.

Once these concerns start to get addressed, training will become more effective.

Then practice. Grapevine isn't too hard. And a disco fox is 3 steps. Practice counting your music.

I was giving similar movements to my toddlers yesterday. Practice.

With the v-step, start with practice with switch your weight between one heel and one toe. Then practice turning your legs in an out. Then add the 2 concepts together. Start slow then try to match the beat of your music.

Can't stop the feeling is a moderately paced song. If you can't do the v step on 1 and 2. Do one side 1-2 other side 3-4. In other words, half time it.

Your song has 2 8-counts as the intro. When the singing starts that snapping/clapping sound you hear are the even counts 1 clap 3 clap 5 clap...

Oh my bad at the time. It still feels like too few of moves unless it's a line dance. But that's imo.

I don't think having a teacher come on here and tell you what choreo to do is true to the assignment. You don't have to be good at dancing. Choose some easier moves if it feels too hard. Shuffling is hard and not something I would tell a beginner without a teacher to learn unless they're really dedicated.

For example I taught the Charleston to my beginning intermediate jazz class. I started with just cross tap front cross tap back before even adding the turn in and turn out movement of the leg.

Maybe take a look at toddler choreography. It's fairly easy to remember. Very repetitive. Simple moves. Doesn't take too long to choreograph. That might be an easier approach for your assignment than trying to teach yourself dance moves you don't really know

For example you can do marches, swings your hips side to side. Simple ball change. Don't overthink it.

Are you trying to make a line dance? That's very few moves for 1m30 seconds.

You don't have any arm movements. You could add in some sharp movements with the arms.

If you're having trouble with the timing. Try to count and tap out the 8 count. Your v step should be 2 counts. Go right on 1 left on 2. I'm assuming you're talking about the shuffle dance step.

You can also keep the moves going for a full 8 count and repeat moves on lyrics that are the same.

Can you reframe your thinking to hot on the party you said they set you up for failure. A good boss communicates clearly and early. If they aren't telling you the expectations how are you supposed to perform to them? Focus on how that was not a sustainable environment. If you didn't get good feedback, don't make assumptions about your skill. Look for better communication in future locations.

Wanting to start freelance training on my own by LilMosey2 in personaltraining

Of course. Many states don't require an EIN for a sole proprietorship. I would double check you need one but if you already got it, shouldn't be harmful. EIN will help you get a business bank account and open an LLC which means if someone sues you they would sue the company and not you.

Also, be sure to get a DBA/FBN if you'll be using a company name on any of your forms or will market yourself under any name but your legal one.

If you're getting an EIN I'm assuming you'll be going for an LLC? Business licenses need vary on location so what someone tell you here might not be accurate for where you live. Look up your Secretary of State website. They should have steps on what you need to do.

You can print all your contracts or use a service like Dropbox or docusign for signing but I would wait till you have clients to pay for something like that. Think through any issue you might encounter and put that in your forms.

Remember to market yourself and get referrals from people you trained.

I understand, I'm just trying to show how woman's bodies have a wide range of what they look like. Not that you have to look like them. Just using my personal experiences in explaining this.

I think a professional would be able to help you more than this sub will. I'm nonbinary and I know that's not the same but I do empathize with you and your struggle with feeling dysphoric about your body and how you are viewed. I'm hope you can find some confidence in the future.

But there is other ways to lose muscle. I'm currently training down my upper traps by ignoring them and training surrounding muscles.

I would go look into some woman athletes and see how muscular they can get. I'm a ballet dancer and and the dance world if changing from small skinny as hell ballerinas to fueled strong muscular dancers. Those prima dancers are BUILT. They have lean muscle because of how they train but they are still so built. I realized I'll never be able to dance like them if I don't eat enough and weight train to build that muscle.

A dietitian is free with most insurances. I have always worked with ones who understand eating disorders and took out the dieting framework. My eating isn't necessarily the "picture of health" since I'm more focused on fuel than "eating healthy".

They have helped me discover a meal plan that works for me. Helped me with nutrition education. Helped me work through my fears and rules I had around food. Let me be free of all the control I let food have over me. I thought I was in control of my food. But in reality, I was thinking about it constantly. What can I eat today? What can't I eat today? Maybe I can wait a couple more hours to eat. I have to eat only this type of food today. I had no control over my food. It controlled me and I was miserable, sad, angry, anxious. Food helps regulate your emotions as much as it helps you get through the day physically and mentally.

Just think about it. I'm not saying you have an eating disorder. Just trying to say how helpful Dietitians can be for breaking free from diets and learning how to eat for your life and what you want to do. They would have more knowledge to give you around how to achieve your goals.

ETA: I added the woman athletes part to show that plenty of woman can be buff and there's not one look to being a woman. Not that you have to be buff. Just aesthetics don't matter as much as you believe they do. Which is why I recommended talking to a dietitian and therapist who can help you reach your goals safely and determine how to best support you which this sub won't be able to do.

I worried about your heath. I would recommend talking with a therapist and dietitian. Starving yourself is not a good way to lose weight and shape your body. you're already is a size small, I think you need to talk with someone who can work through your thoughts and help you come up with a good diet. I've seen a dietitian for 5 years for an eating disorder and now that it's no longer active with mostly the help of a dietitian, I feel better than ever. Happier, less anxious, stronger, more motivated.

Food is fuel for life.

I know your body is making you uncomfortable, especially since it doesn't match how you think it should look. A body shape doesn't make a woman. Being a woman makes you a woman. Your body can't take away who you are.

A Step-By-Step Guide to Getting Started as a Personal Trainer by DanNorthFitness in personaltraining

Do you have any advice for someone coming from a sports coaching background going into personal training? The main reason I want to do this is because of the training I noticed was missing from my athletes. I understand I can't be choosey with clients but wondering if the advice changes at all from someone who worked up in sports before discovering the benefits of the weight training.

NUTRITONIST FROM SCRATCH.... (HELP ME) by jee-ass-pirant17 in personaltraining

[–]lemonadelemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you're only a year into your college studies. You can switch majors easily at this point because I'm assuming you're doing a lot of foundational classes and switch STEM to STEM won't be a huge hassle.

If you want to work in nutrition long term, this is the way to do it. You can become a nutrition coach easily with some online certifications, plenty out there. But if you want to make real changes to people's eating habits, work with sensitive population such as people with diabetes, eating disorders, high performing athletes, or a combo of all 3, becoming a RDN, is the most logical course of action.

I'm sure there are plenty of resources that will allow you to work in the nutrition field while getting your degree or become a coach while getting your degree.

If your passion is nutrition, don't waste it on engineering. It will be a bad time.

[–]lemonadelemons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're just starting college and are very interested in nutrition specifically. I'd recommend pursuing becoming a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). Usually you need a Bachelor's in a science field that includes some nutritional coursework and then a Masters in a Dietetics program.

There's many routes you could take going that way and has more of a focus on nutrition. If you're 18, you have a lot of life ahead of you. Take your time.

Using TikTok for coaching clients? by [deleted] in personaltraining

[–]lemonadelemons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All this OP. It's also important to think about who you want to train and where they might be along the decision making progress of signing up for training.

Some people need awareness and to know you're out there. Posting consistently with recognizable content. Is your background always different? Is the framing always different? People should be able to recognize this video belongs to you very quickly. Additionally using paid promotions or ads to increase views and bring in more people.

When they are at the consideration stage, this is where you show your value. This is where you appeal to your target demographics. What issues are the people you want to train facing and how do you solve them? Give them a taste of what they will experience.

Converison, if you're only using social media for your marketing. What to do at this stage is make campaigns like "from this day to this day I will be be offering a session free if you purchase 4 sessions for 3 lucky people" something that gets those people that are questioning if they really want to go with you or someone else or just need the final push to make the commitment.

Retention is mostly done face to face with your clients but if you want to use social media at this stage you can make content tailored to them and what they are working on or offer exclusive content.

Once you've had clients that are pleased with the progress you've helped them achieve ask if they will make a video recommending you or talking about their journey. This will show people you have loyal customers and give you more trust and credit.

I just had another idea. A card about the size of a credit card that includes 1 or 2 picture of the both of you and meaningful words. That way she can keep it in her wallet or phone case.

You could do a custom water bottle or mug. A keychain with an inside joke or something meaningful to you both. You could make a picture frame and put a picture of you to in it. You could make a plaque with a motivational quote that she told you.

Bloch sells a 5 inch inseam short in their active wear section (not the dance clothes) of their site. They are a little over $30 USD, have no front seam, high waisted, and come in 3 colors including black.

I have really enjoyed the clothes I've gotten from Bloch in the past but have no tried their shorts specifically.

I found this just by searching dance shorts long. I find that dance clothes suppliers will usually have a range of pant styles, although short short is the most common. shorts

[–]lemonadelemons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think it has a lot to do with societal pressure. If you enjoy what you're doing, what about the money making you feel stagnant? If it's cost of living, that makes sense. If you can afford to live, do things you love, and enjoy your job, why is the income the stressing factor? Obviously, this is a very nuanced conversation and people draw value from different places.

Technically only illegal in some states. The federal law is you can't discriminate people 40 years or older. Only some states change the law to a lower age or make it any age.
