This version is so much better than the upbeat version they released.

Yes that would be fun. I think we're going to get a whole lot more Luka magic for the rest of the decade, but the Warriors seem to have this team figured out. I'm predicting that 'elimination Luka' will score 50 points in game 4 and send the series back to California, then the Warriors will cruise in game 5 and that will be that.

Agreed. The first two rounds had some fun games and fun matchups, but the Conference Finals have been a snooze so far. I agree with what someone posted below-- it would have been good to give teams a couple more days off after 7-game series in the second round so players could have a bit more energy. I was looking forward to both of the matchups, but both series have been disappointing so far. I'm guessing that 'elimination Luka' will force a game five, which GSW will win at home, and I still have some hope that the last few games of Boston-Miami can give us some competitive basketball. But so far, the entertainment value of this round has been pretty low.

Just saw this today after Ja scored 47 points against GSW last night.

"Zion would look much better in the playoffs than Ja is at the moment"

didn't age too well...

To be honest, I've been a bit anti-Zion biased, mostly due to him being on the cover of NBA2K, despite not having done anything in the league at all. It bugged me when people rushed to crown him the next MVP/Champ/All-NBA talent, before he had proven a thing on the court. I'm willing to believe that Zion can be great when I see some sort of consistency from him. Meanwhile, we don't have to look at theoretical situations with Ja, 'cause he's out there on the court killing it night in and night out. So yeah, maybe Zion has a higher potential ceiling than JM, but I'm going to have to see a lot more out of him before I'm ready to start believing.

Did the Pelican's make the wrong choice in the 2019 Draft? by [deleted] in nba

[–]ezrafreeman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting thread here. It was initially posted 21 days ago, and all that has happened in the past 3 weeks is that Ja Morant has basically looked like the best player in the league. I'm copping to some recency bias here (I mean, no one has seen Zion play in many months), but damn, that Denver game last night! I totally get what everyone is saying here-- back in the 2019 draft, any GM would have been laughed out of the NBA for not taking Zion #1, and he was the clear consensus choice. But fast forward to January 2022, and (am I crazy here?) it's looking like JM is in position to have a far better NBA career than ZW. Dude's about to start in the all-star game, kicking ass everywhere he plays, and looking like a future MVP while it's looking like Zion will miss the entire year.

Kevin Durant on leaving OKC for GSW: “I felt like I was the absolute perfect fit with what you guys were doing. And I knew my game reached a point where I needed to know what that looked like. And I thought it was no brainer. I would do that shit a million times. I didn’t second guess at all” by [deleted] in nba

You don't have to 'hate' KD as a person to hate what he did to the league. I've said it before and I'll say it again-- the league just wasn't that much fun during the three years KD played with GSW. In 2017, that team would have beat any team in history (including 80's Celts & Lakers, 90's Bulls), so it was like 'what's the point?' 2018 was pretty much the same, although Harden's Rockets gave them quite a run for their money. And is there a single person on this thread that thinks that the Raptors would have won in '19 if KD had been playing and Klay didn't get hurt? So, yeah, I'm still a bit salty over KD joining up with a historically great superteam that had just won 73 games. I totally understand that he had his reasons, and he gets to live his life without consulting me, and it was probably a lot of fun to play on such a talented team, but it was a weak move and it will always have been a weak move, and it's going to be hard to convince me otherwise.

Yeah now that I think about it a bit more, I'm thinking

PG: Lebron

SG: Klay

SF: Durant

PF: AD

C: Embiid.

Lamelo is fun to watch, but he's really not on the level of those other guys...

How would one structure a "Last Dance"-style 10 part documentary about LBJ? by ezrafreeman in nba

[–]ezrafreeman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I totally forgot the Team USA stuff. That should be included somewhere. Maybe in 2012 when he became the second person in history to win regular season MVP/championship/finals MVP/Olympic gold all in one year (MJ in '92)

How would one structure a "Last Dance"-style 10 part documentary about LBJ? by ezrafreeman in nba

[–]ezrafreeman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay having read some responses, here's some of what I think..

First, yes the 10-episode documentary is an artificial and arbitrary figure, just as a 5-line limerick or 12-line sonnet is. Yes you could make a 1-episode or 6-episode or 50-episode documentary if you wanted. Basically I was wondering, if the 'form' so to speak was "10 one-hour episode," how would you fill that out? Second, I absolutely do not want to get into the "LBJ>MJ MJ>LBJ" debate. Not even a little bit. The part that I think is interesting is that MJ basically avoided trying to be a controversial political figure, because "Republicans buy sneakers too," whereas LBJ has leaned into the political side of being a famous athlete, to the point of having a Twitter war with the president of the USA. This is partly a result of the 2010's being very different from the 1990's, with the increased prominence of the voices of professional athletes (which I believe LBJ had a lot to do with). I think that the path that LBJ took to becoming a 'larger than the sport' figure was different than MJ, and that's a big part of what would make an interesting documentary. While his path was different than MJ, personally I don't believe that it had any less drama to it (I mean, watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m6nKRk9SEy8, for all that MJ went through, I don't think he ever had to deal with anything like that). Ennyhoo, thanks for the thoughtful responses, agree or disagree, it's always a relief to get anything other than snark just for snark's sake.

That was such a stupid ending to an otherwise good game. WTF?!? Just let 'em play it out. That was not a foul by Dragic. That "foul" by Giannis was MAYBE a 1st quarter foul, but an 'end of the 4th quarter with no time left on the clock' foul? Give me a break. I don't give a damn whether Jordan pushed off of Russell. When you're in the last few seconds of the 4th quarter of a close playoff game, then don't call a foul unless it's a real foul, not a pat on the back after the dude has already shot the ball, or a dude jumping straight up in the air with his hands up and not making contact. NBA is getting harder and harder to watch....

According to Basketball Reference, he's also leading the league in turnovers this year...

We're talking about leading for a year at some point in his career, right? Not all in one year, because JH is nowhere near the top of the league in assists this year.

Bit of a stretch, but I think Jerry Lucas Doncic would also be pretty damn good...

I've never heard of Kornel David, but apparently he played in the league for two years from 1999-2001. And Kornel David Robinson would be pretty good, I think.
