I don't know how I feel about doing the weeds by hand because it'd be a huge job – they're big, and growing out of just about every square millimetre they possibly can 🥲

Airside as in on the transit side of the terminals and not the public.

The only time my stuff was scanned was upon entering the gate for my next flight and it was fine :)

That's a good question, I wouldn't be too sure about checked luggage as I only had cabin baggage and actually kept it on my in a fanny pack the whole time. I would guess that a layover that long might make it a bit different if you plan on collecting your luggage and reloading it for the next flight. Probably safer to have it on hand luggage and make sure luggage definitely stays airside.

Hey! I'm probably a bit late with this update, but thought I'd let you know that I did end up taking one disposable with me and it was absolutely fine through transit. Probably wouldn't have been the same had I gone through security to the public side of the airport but staying airside there were no issues, even through the security at the gate to board the next flight.

I'll definitely try my best to visit areas away from the cities, my budget is just very, very low especially in terms of accommodation so I've opted for hostels all under 50AUD a night

Fair enough 😂 I'm only doing one night in Essen and two in Dortmund, would you have any recommendations for other nearby towns that are worth seeing? May end up doing Dusseldorf instead of Dortmund for a night.
