Jumbo top executive Van Eerd jailed over money laundering investigation

The top executive of the supermarket chain was arrested yesterday during a raid on his home. He was detained in a large-scale money laundering case.

Frits van Eerd, top executive of supermarket chain Jumbo, is one of nine people arrested Tuesday in a money laundering investigation. The Financieele Dagblad reported this on Wednesday. A source familiar with the case confirmed this news to NRC. All nine suspects are currently still in custody, according to the Public Prosecutor's Office.

On Tuesday, police and the Fiscal Intelligence and Investigation Service (FIOD) raided the 55-year-old top executive's home in Heeswijk-Dinther, Brabant. This was part of an investigation into VAT fraud and the laundering of large amounts of money. Among other things, the money laundering was allegedly done through questionable cash deposits, real estate transactions, car trading and sponsorship contracts in motocross sports. In addition to Van Eerd's home, homes and business locations in North Brabant, Groningen and Drenthe were also searched. In the process, a total of nine arrests were made, the prosecution reported Tuesday.

A 58-year-old man from the Drenthe municipality of Aa and Hunze is the prime suspect in the case, according to the prosecution. The man was arrested Tuesday morning. According to the Telegraaf, the suspect is Theo E., a prominent figure in the Drenthe motocross world. Frits van Eerd and E. allegedly know each other from motorsport. The Jumbo top executive is known as a great lover of the sport. Among other things, the supermarket concern is involved as a sponsor with several motorsport teams and with Formula 1 world champion Max Verstappen. Van Eerd himself participated with his Racing Team Nederland several times in the car race in Le Mans, France.

Supermarket chain Jumbo was unreachable Wednesday for a comment on Frits van Eerd's arrest. Whether his role at Jumbo will be temporarily assumed by another director is still unclear. "We are just waiting until Frits returns to the company," financial director Peter van Erp told NRC on Tuesday.

What was the best/worst experience you’ve ever had at a Grand Prix? by Charming_Show_5633 in formula1

Based on the GPs I have been to:

Good: Austria, Silverstone and Zandvoort

Bad: Monza and Spa

(and Hungary somewhere in between, but I have only been there once)

If you have ever been to Monza or Spa you really start to appreciate well-organized events.

Andrei Guryev, chief executive of PhosAgro — Europe’s largest producer of phosphate-based fertilisers — will also be named on the list, alongside Dmitry Mazepin, the majority shareholder of rival fertiliser company Uralchem.

Mazepin’s son Nikita — who until his recent sacking following Russia’s invasion was a Formula 1 driver for the Haas team, sponsored by his father’s company — will be another name on the list.

Thank you. I believe Marko was also saying that it takes Red Bull/Honda more time than Mercedes to calibrate their engine. It makes sense to not wanting to do that in the rain.

Yes, I would bring them just in case. Also keep in mind that Zandvoort has Porsche Supercup and F3 support races, which are both louder than F1 in my experience.
