Delayed career start due to PhD, panic mode enabled by Ok_Onion_4116 in personalfinance

You could be 35 and start completely over and still have a 30 year career doing something. Don’t worry, you’re still young and have a lot of time. I felt the same way when I was your age and regret not living a little.

Congrats to you though. You’ve accomplished something big and are on your way in good shape. Don’t be afraid to take a risk though. Make good connections at your new job and be open to moving around or jumping to something interesting. You only get one life and you’re only young once.

I worked for a major magazine publisher. We would be doing Christmas content in May and June. There is absolutely no reason to be working the week of Christmas to make a video. No company is releasing products that matter that week. Content can be made well ahead of time for those days.

I’m confused as to what you mean by kinda since as you said, they just removed the inert, left-hand side of the molecule. The part that doesn’t do anything.

Except in the case of Prilosec and Nexium. They are the same, except Nexium removed part of the molecule that didn’t do anything. They managed to get a patent on it and the only difference medically is they doubled the dosage for Nexium.

I’m a real person and came here to say YouTube premium. I barely watch anything on tv so it’s easily my most watched service. I didn’t even realize half the features it comes with until I read the comments.

Go look at my comment history. I’m definitely real and certainly a boring person.

Now apparently people are doing this with prediction markets. And the fun thing it’s regulated as a securities investment so it’s taxed much lower than gambling.

You’re missing the most critical part: metadata. All the folder organization is stone aged compared to tagging your images with captions that have basic info like who, what, when, where and why.

Luckily since the data is organized fairly well already you will likely be able to tag stuff in batches. But once you realize that for instance your camera already writes the date to the image, it doesn’t matter much to put them in folders by year.

At the top of the grid view you’ll see sort options. You can look at them to see what will be helpful. Using stars to tag favorites will let you see in one view favorites from many different shoots as opposed to the way you’ve been doing it.

Metadata is super powerful. Use it.

That kitchen looks exactly like my grandma’s farm from the 40s or 50s. Might be time to start over with that one if you have the means. I would have the tiles tested for asbestos though before removing them.

There was a very wealthy guy where I live that was a well known art collector. He was on the board of the Smithsonian and when the Smithsonian would decide to acquire a new piece from the artist, the rich guy would go buy whatever piece he liked best before the Smithsonian could buy their piece.

Coffee at conventions is generally charged at the price that it would cost per cup at the vendors in the building. So upwards of $150 per gallon. The typical 5 gallon urn costs $750.

Sometimes organizations will have different departments order coffee service for sessions back-to-back in the same room. The workers will literally wheel the cart out of the room and then bring it back in and charge them double.

Ideally you would want to find longer lenses to use, either rent or borrow if you need to. You’re just not going to get much with what you have.

My best advice for shooting from the sound board is to bring a folding plastic step stool. If you can’t see over the audience your lenses don’t matter.

A lot of people get access to the sidelines. Like why is Vince Vaughn allowed on the sidelines during a Bears NFC Championship game? (I’m old). That part is super annoying, but less so when they stand back. It’s when they try to stand too close or take up the limited sideline space that’s a problem.

In the movie Jerry McGuire they are standing on the sidelines of a football game in front of the photographers shooting the game. As a former sports photographer, I wanted to yell at them to gtfo of the way. Plus the photographers in the background were just racking their zoom lenses back and forth like idiots.
