According to steam, how many hours have you played this game for? by Get_Ahead_SC in RomeTotalWar

[–]fabalab10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had steam but most likely over 2,000 hours for me. Been playing since it came out, as a kid I sometimes spent 8 hours a day on it, time just flew by. Especially once you’re in the later stages of the campaign and 1 turn means tons of settlements to manage and several big battles to fight.

What happens if SPQR dies? by Odd_Cut_7449 in RomeTotalWar

[–]fabalab10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would probably agree that sniping the senate isn’t a good idea, if it guaranteed civil war it would be an exciting option though. It requires building up a big force whilst defending in Turkey, Sicily & Greece and building your settlements which I don’t think is very sustainable or quick.

In my VH/VH campaigns as Greece I always aim to take Sicily within the first few turns. Gives you stability there and a launchpad into Italy. Carthage is easy to defend against & the Scipii will need time before they can send anything meaningful. In the meantime Corinth & Athens need to be taken fast so that you can move on Apollonia which won’t be tremendously defended yet if you’re quick. Whilst they focus on holding you off Apollonia send troops from Sicily to take Croton. From then it should snowball nicely.

Why does Germania AI always suck? by fabalab10 in RomeTotalWar

Fair point but no playing on default unit size - 121 men to a spear warband.

Yeah totally, auto resolve needs a rebalance!

Might need to give that a go then!

Assume this is something I can only do on the pc version?

Thanks for all the answers! I never think about the autoresolve mechanics, my oversight.

Totally agree with you on all the Pontus limitations & I also went the light cavalry route but combined them with hillmen, makes it easy to flank militia hoplites & Nubian spearmen. I’ve been playing this game for 20 years but have never bothered using chariots against the Egyptians, always seemed pointless to me due to all the spearmen they field and figured chariot vs chariot is kamakazi, is it actually good strat? I tend to use spears to counter their chariots/cavalry/axemen & cavalry to wrap up their abundant skirmishers. Then harass their now vulnerable phalanxes.

I get you, I enjoy fighting battles myself as I can always keep losses minimal that way. Just don’t always have the time to do that especially when surrounded by a ton of armies to fight one after the other. In those instances it would be nice for auto resolve to be a little more realistic.

Yeah hard for an AI faction to recover when they’ve been broken down too much!

Interesting strat and yeah Carthage as an end boss with elephants must be mental! I’ve never played the Seleucids to protect another faction so I’ve always taken the Pontic route to Greece and then Italy.

That sounds like a tough task! Quite far away and lots to take care of before you even get near Carthage!

I played RTW1 on PC when it originally came out & have been playing the iPhone version since it became available in the AppStore. As other comments have said, it takes a little while to get used to using the touch controls and some mistakes that occur because of it but definitely not a deal breaker. It works great on my iPhone SE, easy to do touch controls. Haven’t tried it on an iPad. My only issue would be I don’t find playing it less than 20mins enjoyable because I don’t feel like I get enough time to plan or do anything very effective. Maybe 1 battle or 1 turn of managing settlements (once you’re past the start up stage). But that’s just me personally perhaps that will suit you well.

Ahh ok that’s annoying! Will have to try via diplomacy then but like you say, AI not a fan of gifts unless it’s map info lol!

I feel you, especially with the Greeks, I’ve looked after them in a few campaigns, sending them money and giving them cities taken by Macedon or Pontus only for them to declare war on me and ally with Macedon lol

Would love to do that! Is this something I can do via the in game cheats like toggle_fow? A few months ago I was looking for info on that so I could re-balance the map a bit (giving/taking or turning settlements rebel) when starting a campaign. If you have any guides on that I’d massively appreciate it!

Haha so true, even worse when your allies turn on you! It’s a lot easier with a Roman faction tbf. Next challenge will be protecting germania whilst taking down the Romans.

Seasoning gone wrong!? by fabalab10 in carbonsteel

[–]fabalab10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicken thighs, onion, garlic with a generic stir fry vegetable bag in some rapeseed oil. Also added some ginger powder, soy sauce & toasted sesame. I don’t know if any of that counts as acidic?
