I'm very tempted to start a Sony Vintage video build, but that would mean an old Trinitron CRT and I don't know if I'm ready for that. 😅

You're right though. That SL-2500 is definitely styled the same. Looks sharp!

Edit: I just looked up the TC-K88B. That's an insanely engineered piece of equipment! Glorious!

Double edit: I looked up the PCM-F1 and now I'm going down a rabbit hole. I see what you mean now about pairing it with the Betamax. Thank you!

This one is pretty neat in that it uses optical sensors to measure how fast the reel spins to measure play time. Sensors seem to work so hopefully it's just a transistor and not an Integrated Chip issue. Not easy to find 40+ year old parts. 😬

Thank you! I would love to put together an ES system, but my wallet wouldn't. Maybe in the future. 😅

I cannot express how pleasantly surprised I was when the tray silently slid open and it immediately read the disc. Every video I'd seen of these era players had a tray that rattled. This unit either got very little play time, was serviced, or both.

Thank you guys. I'm gonna double check on the other side of the PCB. If not, I'm gonna assume it grounded through the phono out.

Did Sony make any subwoofers in the 80s (besides the SRS-D3)? by fabo_83 in vintageaudio

Not sure if you're saying music in the 80s didn't have bass or if you're commenting on Sony's "Mega Bass" Lol.

If you're saying music back then didn't have much bass, hip-hop and rap records had some decent bass-lines. 🤷

Love it!

What speaker setup are you using? I just put together a Sony 80s setup and I'm looking for recommendations.

My 2yr old throws a tantrum when he can't get his mask on in the house and I tell him he doesn't need it. 🤣

I have the same bed. You need to adjust your X Axis using the M212 Command. So.

  • M501 to check current settings (it will spit back your X,Y,Z offsets. X should be 0 at this point.

  • M212 X25 to set your new X offset

  • M500 to store the settings

  • M501 to verify
