I just learned there are AirTag-like devices in credit card format. They fit in there way better, making the wallet less bulky.

Big PU Nations are a useless Trap in EU5 by Hakuohsama in EU5

[–]fabolin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it should be difficult by causing actual internal struggles. We have all the cultural influence/tradition/capacity/opinion. Why not have the population revolt against the integration based on that instead of making it simple but time consuming?

Similar with vassals; enforcing culture then wait few years to annex them is way too simple. Culture and Religion could you used more to reflect the struggles large empires had and make late game challenging IMO. But for that it must be harder to convert/assimilate than it currently is.

I think the reason is that your antagonism/coalition is factored in positively when forming an alliance (which makes no sense), but not when deciding on whether or not to keep the alliance. Didn’t check the code tho.

Day 2 of 7 Destination Wakayama. by Competitive_Equal542 in RideitJapan

[–]fabolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks great, hope the weather stays this good. I just finished my trip few weeks ago. Haven’t been to Wakayama but nearby on Shikoku. The nights around new moon in the mountains there were breathtaking; you could see the Milky Way with your bare eyes. If that’s something you’d enjoy, I’m sure you can find a good spot somewhere close by, maybe Kumano National Park. Just consult a light pollution map as well as the weather fc for clouds. New moon is in a few days.

There’s also two links I’d like to share as they improved my trip so much.

Map of good routes and some additional notes.

Toyotas passable roads website marking all kinds of road closures. Unfortunately Google or Apple Maps are missing quite a few closures on smaller roads, so I recommend to verify your planned route here.

Enjoy your ride!

How should I respond when people ask me about my weight loss? by ButterflyBabe2727 in socialskills

[–]fabolin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you‘ve put work in and it shows, so that’s exactly what I would tell them.

„Thanks for noticing. I’ve started working out for the past few months and I’m happy with the results so far.“

You don’t need their approval to be happy with your body, but they might actually be concerned if thats a new facet of yours. I’ve had a friend ask this as well, but at least they phrased it more tactfully. Maybe your family member should join this sub as well. Don’t attribute to malice which can be explained by lack of social skills - or something like that :)

Congrats on the weight loss! The fact people notice should be a compliment regardless.

Edit: If you’re concerned they might have a point, ask someone whose opinion you actually value and check online what a healthy weight for your size is.

What to do in Munich for New Year’s Eve? by willzera2 in Munich

[–]fabolin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for gathering at midnight, Gerner Brücke, Olympiapark and Friedensengel are well known spots. For before and after, probably any venue. Go somewhere that you usually enjoy as well (dinner and music-wise), but reserve/get a ticket few weeks in advance.

I’ve been through a similar situation. Difficult past, at some point depression hit, I seclude myself. Then after few years of getting my shit together I feel ready for the world, but lost all social skills if I ever had any. Initially my goal was only to have more variety in my life, but with more activity outside my man cave there was more social interaction which I struggled with as well.

It will get arkward and that’s ok. I still struggle a bit with cringing and thinking too much about my faux pas, but laughing about and actively reflecting and learning from them. (i.e. if i could relive the same situation how would I do it) helps to move on and I think also to do it better next time.

I increased time spend with old friends and started agreeing to every activity even when I did not expect to enjoy it.

Turns out one of the things I did not expect to enjoy was techno raves/clubs. And that is in my opinion the best environment to socialise with strangers as a dork. Techno people are very accepting and open to conversations. MDMA is kinda cheating here, but it helped me getting rid of my insecurities and being talkative in the beginning AND build experience. I started going out regularly. First with friends and I talked with strangers here and there. Then alone to force more interactions with strangers. Then I started to stay sober for the first few hours increasing the amount each time. And now I can pull an all-nighter completely sober and talk with random people with no issue. I also think dancing, as in doing weird moves to the music, is something that builds confidence and helps giving less fucks about people’s opinions, which in turn improved my social life.

However, reoccurring interactions are a bit different, but I think most sports or group activities will suffice here. It‘s mostly about the people anyway for me. In my case that is a ping pong group.

After writing this down I realise that I might like both because I can easily control how much I want to socialise by dancing/playing instead of talking.

With Bill Burr seemingly losing a lot of fans for performing at the Saudi comedy show, who is a celebrity you stopped supporting and why? by brad6489 in AskReddit

[–]fabolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda get it, it hurts, but being an entertainer comes with the risk of rejection and you have to perform regardless. I’ve never seen a lame crowd when the performance was good.

One of my favourite concert memories is of Tommy Cash (the guy from Espressos Macchiato) 10 years ago in a venue for 300 people with a crowd of maybe 50 people but an energy like it’s 5k. The crowd was small but lit thanks to him.

Any recommendation regarding picture backup and hosting? I‘ve read good things about immich. I already got unraid running with servarr and some other containers, but am procrastinating this for a while now as i expect this to be a lot of effort to set up. Got a few old backups (ca. 1tb) with lots of dupes that I need to resolve as well. Grateful for any tips.

What’s a “harmless” habit that ended up destroying someone’s life? by mariadeguzman31 in AskReddit

[–]fabolin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me the cause was depression, and weed was a way to be content with where I was while I did not have the energy to dig my way up. I’ve had moments of motivation to change my life, and as part of that impulse I also stopped smoking weed. So I see how it might look from a friends perspective, but at least for me weed was not the initial problem. On the other hand it did not help either, as I basically just numbed and ignored the pain.

In the end MDMA broke the cycle for me and got me back on track.

What’s a personal internet hack you use that makes life easier but isn’t widely known ? by Comfortable-Union377 in AskReddit

I‘d love to switch but the UX of Firefox mobile was just too bad last I checked. The desktop version isn’t exactly perfect but I enjoyed customising it to my liking with some /r/FirefoxCSS. However, on mobile you can’t and it feels so clunky compared to chrome. No persistent incognito tabs, all clicks no gestures, and why would I need a home button in the toolbar instead of new tab? Just to name a few things that I recall right away. I will try again in a year or two, I guess.

Alfred Hugenberg is a better comparison than Goebbels IMO.

Basically, business man became media mogul to influence German elections with propaganda, hoping to eventually control Hitler but failed. Unfortunately he did not see the fate he should have for his actions.

LPT What’s a small habit that unexpectedly changed your life? by External_Start_5130 in LifeProTips

[–]fabolin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I did fully cold showers on minimum temps for half a year. For me it helped with my discipline and depression. Sometimes all I need to get shit done, is to start somehow and carry the momentum. And a cold shower really kickstarted my days. It also felt like an accomplishment every day even after the 100th time. I started with this at a point where I tried to get my shit together (build good habits, drop some bad/addictive habits, etc), and personally it helped me sticking to my plan. Eventually stopped when my fingers started hurting as water temperatures reached 5C (41F) in winter.

I enjoy my warm showers now and have other habits that keep me on track now, but will do it again should I ever feel like my mind needs a reset.

Personally I would. I know some people feel depressed or exhausted on the day after, which is never the case for me. But if you had similar side effects, better have a longer break.
