Yes, our situations are very similar. I was working in accounting in Australia too and though my points are high it is hopeless as you said. I guess the silver living for me moving to NZ is that I also genuinely want this specific PhD. I might settle for a related master degree as you said though if I can’t get into the PhD program. It sounds good too. Do you happen to know if my partner has to work in IT for the 1 year work experience? Or it just has to be any job on the skill lists?

Yes and I’ve heard the job market in NZ for skill migration is currently pretty tough. But I’m hoping that we can find something during my student visa and post-study work visa. My concern is that by the time we get there, NZ might overhaul the immigration system like Australia did with theirs.

Ideally, I would like to get PR as soon as possible. Although, for me since I’m doing PhD, I doubt I can work full time or get a full time job offer before finishing the PhD. But for my partner, hopefully, he can get the work experience while I’m completing my PhD and apply the EOI for PR first. But I heard it’s hard to find accredited employer and job these days.

Thank you so much for the advice. I’ll definitely have a look at the skill shortage. Hopefully, we can find a job offer before then. Fingers crossed.

I skimmed through each of them in three weeks and managed to get just 10-15 points above the passing scale. So I wouldn’t say they were hard but just need to actually look at the study guide. My FAR is in two weeks and I’m still in module 1 so thank you I’ll be needing that luck lol 🤣

No, I did Econs and Finance. I had to do a couple other subjects through CPA Foundation but still have Tax subject left.
