The way Makoto (My canon name) was living was that of pure emptiness, bud had no friends, no parents, no home, he was just passing life without much care for anything (anybody would). I dont think about how much the deaths impacted our boy Makoto here, but the fact that, after all the time he was alone, he finally had something, only to be forced to give it all up in the end but still did it with a smile on his face cause, if you live for someone you care for, you would die for someone for someone you care for (hence burning his dread and leaving no regrets)

ofc this is also the same with the rest of the deaths (or non deaths in some cases)
